Edgar Wright

As if the years he spent developing Ant-Man never happened, filmmaker Edgar Wright has moved on from the long-gestating Marvel Studios he was forced depart over the all-too-typical creative differences, and is piling on the future projects.

A few days ago it was revealed that he was hard at work on his next original feature Baby Driver for Working Title Films. If that wasn’t surprising and pleasant enough to hear, today Wright has signed on to direct an adaptation of the young adult novel Grasshopper Jungle for Sony Pictures.

Edgar Wright

Never one to allow depressing developments to deter him from doing that which he loves, filmmaker Edgar Wright has walked away from the collapse of his version of Ant-Man at Marvel Studios a bit older and wiser than before, and is heading full blast into his next film project to be titled Baby Driver.

Wright, who also wrote the screenplay, will be making his first original feature since completing the “Three Flavors Cornetto” trilogy last year with The World’s End. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. had Baby Driver described to him as “a collision of crime, action, music and sound.” A pretty vague description but one that seems perfectly within Wright’s creative wheelhouse. The project is set up at the director’s longtime home Working Title Films and will be produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Nira Park, Wright’s producers on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End.

Did Edgar Wright Leave ‘Ant-Man’ Because Of Product Placement?

Edgar Wright

Ant-Man has been a hot topic on the site as of late. More so than Dr. Strange finding a director or even Marvel’s shortlist of possible actors to play the character. With so much negative press fueling the Ant-Man press machine, one would have hoped that settling on Peyton Reed as director with Adam McKay doing the rewrites would have cleared the air. But this latest update just adds more fuel to the fire.

One of the reasons why original director Edgar Wright left in the first place was because he did not like how Marvel’s in-house writers homogenized his script. After his departure, Marvel was left scrambling to find a replacement in hopes of meeting the scheduled start date. From there we all know the story. But according to a new rumor, product placement was another reason why Wright had an ugly divorce with the studio. Hit the jump for more.
