The GoD List banner

Each and every week, I, “The Famous Cock” Henchman21, and “The Mermaid” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 28, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Since we took last week off, we’re here to drop an extra-sized version of the list this time. Sadly, the list contains one series that is nearly ending, and one series that is going to be significantly changing due to a switch in the creative team. But never fear, we’ve got plenty of other brilliant series to point you towards, including one issue that is a great starting point for one of my favorite titles. So, no time to sleep around, it’s time to wake up to The GoD List!

Avengers #1

So with this new initiative from Marvel the company’s best creators are shuffling like a deck of Gambit’s poker cards. Jonathan Hickman is done with the FF and The Fantastic Four and now (he he) he’s launching this twice a month Marvel NOW! Avengers series with artist Jerome Opena and colorist Dean White starting with The Avengers # 1 hitting store shelves in paper and digital on December 5th!

Hickman had some really amazing runs with the Fantastic Four, most notable of which was his first turn on Ultimate Fantastic Four. It’ll be great to see what he can do with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

We have some early pages from Marvel Now! The Avengers #1 to give you a feel for what’s to come TWICE A MONTH! The only hints we have at story are that the roster is going much larger and the scope of action is going global and even cosmic!

Marvel NOW! Covers

The new Marvel initiative Marvel Now! is rapidly approaching its launch so the House of Ideas is starting blow out the cover previews to get us all salivating for these new stories. Check out the covers here below.

As previously announced, Marvel NOW! is a new set of stories resetting but not rebooting many of Marvel’s most popular characters and teams. Most of them are at least a curiosity, except one. FF #1 features a new group of heroes fighting for the Future Foundation that aren’t the Fantastic Four we know and love. There’s Ant-Man, Madusa, an anime-ish looking She-Hulk, and uh She-Thing? I haven’t been following this one closely so this female Thing is a real shocker to me especially considering how goofy the character looks. At any rate, the true Fantastic Four still exist in the Marvel Now! Universe in their classic book. Mark Bagley has crafted variant covers to the launch issues of both books that connect.

Fantastic Four

Marvel Comics announced on Friday that acclaimed writer Jonathan Hickman would be wrapping up his 3-year Fantastic Four run in October.

While the future of the Fantastic Four title is surely not in jeopardy, it remains to be seen whether or not Hickman’s initiated FF series will continue with another creative team. Jonathan Hickman’s run with these characters has been highly praised by many within the industry and created a strong and rejuvenated interest in the characters. For example, when I was starting to get in to the Fantastic Four, many suggested Hickman’s run alongside Mark Waid’s, John Byrne’s, and Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s tenure with the title. Therefore, in many readers’ eyes, he’s placed amongst the greats. So, while this news may come as a shock to many fans, Hickman isn’t the only one who’s shifting creative gears.

Fantastic Four

Ok, those of us following the death of Johnny Storm and the creation of the new FF knew it was all temporary. Everything pretty much is just temporary in the world of comics. Still, the gap left by the lack of the super hero comedy/drama was a substantial one to hardcore fans.

Well, Fantastic Four fans rejoice because we are a mere few months away from a return, at least in part, to the Fantastic Four we all know and love. When their story is written well, it is great fun and a nice break from the darkness of so many other current comics.

All this week, Marvel has released images teasing the next big FF story, with yesterday’s image showing the return of The Human Torch [read Marvel Teases The Return Of The Human Torch To The Fantastic Four].

Now, the cover art for Fantastic Four #600 has been revealed! Check out the cover by John Romita Jr. here below and get excited for the return of the original four, or get ticked off because you’re enjoying the current FF, which is actually a great story. Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think!
