On February 14, Netflix released its latest original series, The Umbrella Academy, based on the Eisner Award-winning comic book series. The 10-episode streaming series follows the Hargreeves, a dysfunctional family of superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death.

If you haven’t enrolled at The Umbrella Academy yet, now is the perfect time to attend. Here are all the reasons why you should drop what you’re doing and start watching this weird, wonderful piece of goth-pop culture.

A live-action adaptation of the comic books series The Umbrella Academy is on its way to Netflix.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the live-action adaptation, which is based on the Dark Horse title of the same name created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.

Okay, first off, if I have to try to convince you to buy a comic that contains eight premiere issues for a measly six bucks then I might just have to reassess what I am doing here.

I have reviewed any number of these titles at different times and I cannot even begin to stress to you how great of a deal this is. Dark Horse Comics continues to amaze me with their marketing strategies. I can think of no better way to test out some new comics than with this compilation. Here’s what we know: The superhero team known as The Killjoys fought against Better Living Industries “” an evil mega-corporation shedding individuality from the citizens of Battery City. The Killjoys also protected a young girl whom they believed to be a messiah of sorts; however, The Killjoys were all killed and only the girl survived. Now, twelve years later, the Killjoys’ followers, The Ultra V’s “” a group of reckless, careless punk teenagers “” are in the midst of continuing the fight against the B.L.I. and anyone else who might get in their way. The nameless girl wanders the streets with her cat and a radio, avoiding danger at all costs. When she meets up with The Ultra V’s, she quickly learns that the term “superhero” does not have quite the same meaning as it used to and that the B.L.I. are on her trail.
