Anyone who has watched some Food Network in their day has likely seen some kind of competition in which a variety of amazing cake creations are made. Zoe’s Fancy Cakes is someone who would likely do well in competitions such as those.

For this Halloween season, the cake maker’s YouTube channel has been sharing some fitting tutorial videos. One of the videos shows you how to make a cake version of the Bride from Tim Burton‘s stop-motion feature Corpse Bride. Though I’m going to go ahead and assume most mortal beings such as you and I would not fare well in trying to pull the cake off, as it is a truly impressive piece of work.

No genre produces more sequels than horror. And let’s face it, most of these horror sequels are cheaply made, easily produced, and generally terrible. It has become customary in the last thirty years that whenever horror hits a home run, to rush to replicate the process as many times as possible. In the 80s, slashers were the thing, and by decade’s end there were eight Friday the 13th films, five for the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and five for the Halloween franchise. In recent years, the Saw and Paranormal Activity franchises have spit out a sequel a year. Because of this, it is genuinely surprising when a horror sequel comes along that receives both critical and fan praise. After seeing one of those shockingly great horror sequels last week with Ouija: Origin of Evil, I’ve dug up the Top 10 Horror Movie Sequels, right in time for Halloween.

There is almost nothing left that can be said about John Carpenter’s Halloween. It is widely recognized as a classic of horror, one of the scariest movies ever made, and the film that inspired and jump-started the slasher sub genre. What I can offer is perhaps a fresh perspective. You see, on Thursday night, at the final night of the weeklong FEARnyc horror film festival, I took my 12-year-old son Brandon to see Halloween on the big screen for the first time.

Introduced by FEARnyc director John Capo, Halloween starts with a long uninterrupted take tracking the killer arming himself, heading upstairs, putting on a clown mask, and stabbing a girl to death. We find out this was 6-year-old Michael Myers, and the victim was his older sister Judith. “That’s him?,” Brandon whispered. A few seconds later, when a 21-year-old Michael leaps on top of Loomis’s station wagon to escape, “That was him?” Sitting next to him, you could feel his body tense up when Carpenter used one of his taut musical cues. Having seen Halloween countless times, I was enjoying my son’s experience more.

There have been seven sequels to director John Carpenter‘s original 1978 horror classic Halloween, as well as a remake by Rob Zombie that also had one sequel. But it’s been well over three decades now since Carpenter was last involved with the franchise as a producer on Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

Now comes word that a new Halloween movie is on the way, and Carpenter will be heavily involved in its creation. The movie is a joint venture between Blumhouse Productions and CEO Jason Blum, Miramax, producer Malek Akkad, and Trancas International Films. They’ve announced that not only has Carpenter officially signed on to be an executive producer and a “creative consultant” or “godfather” to the project, but there’s also a chance that he’ll even be composing music for the film’s score, just as he did on the original.

Ryan Reynolds really wants Deadpool to be a hit and launch a new Marvel-based franchise for 20th Century Fox. He’s been trying to get it going for years, and with Tim Miller at the helm of his first feature film, it looks as if the Merc with a Mouth’s long-awaited solo movie will make quite the splash when it hits theaters early next year.

Reynolds took to the streets on Halloween to make a humorous little video and conduct a bit of guerrilla marketing for the upcoming R-rated comic book adventure. Best of all, he did so in full Deadpool costume, and he recruited a precocious group of kids dressed up as the X-Men for All Hallows Eve.
