J.J. Abrams Says ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ “Is Very Purposefully Not Called ‘Cloverfield 2′”

10 Cloverfield Lane cast

So far we know that the Dan Trachtenberg-directed 10 Cloverfield Lane is a blood-relative to Cloverfield – which was directed by Matt Reeves. Producer J.J. Abrams made that abundantly clear when a surprise trailer made its debut in theaters alongside 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi earlier this year. But just sharing the name has a few thinking that the new film is a direct sequel to the 2008 sci-fi hit.

Now Abrams wants to clear the air. Despite the fact that the two films share the same name, and the characters are in the same world as the first Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane is not “Cloverfield 2.” It’s just 10 Cloverfield Lane. Check out what he had to say here below.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams

Many of us entertainment writers and film critics didn’t get to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the week leading up to the film’s release. For those who cover the press junket scene, being able to see a film early enough is necessary to compile questions for the interviews. But Disney made it clear that it wasn’t going to happen so that everyone around the world can share the same experience around the world. It was a decision that clearly paid off for them. Not only is the film a box office smash around the globe, critics seemed to have fallen in love with it.

It seems pretty clear that with a film that both critics and the general audience liked, it should be in the running for some major awards like the Oscars. During the promotions at Winter TCAs for Hulu’s latest miniseries 11.22.63, J.J. Abrams talked a little bit about what fans could expect to see in the home entertainment release for The Force Awakens, and the possibility of the film winning an Oscar. Check out his comments below.

J.J. Abrams Responds To ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Being Like ‘A New Hope’

Star Wars The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley and director J.J. Abrams

Everyone can agree that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is probably one of the best Star Wars films that has been released so far. Well, better than the Prequels at least. There are those who believe that The Force Awakens did not measure up to their expectations. But that hasn’t stopped the film from continually breaking box office records left and right — it has even taken the title of the highest domestic grossing film in the U.S., and is currently on its way to being the number one film globally.

While that is great, there are those who are hung up on the idea that The Force Awakens is too much like A New Hope, and left many questions unanswered. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan – who was the screenwriter behind Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the upcoming Han Solo spinoff film.

Despite these criticisms, this was all a part of Abrams and Kasdan’s gameplan. Abrams reveals that the similarities were a “wildly intentional thing.” More on the story below.

Spoilers for The Force Awakens coming….
