Remake Of 1922’s ‘Nosferatu’ On The Way

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror

Many, many vampire movies have been made over the years, most of which were inspired by Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. But the first feature-length vampire movie of them all was none other than 1922’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, or simply Nosferatu.

The movie was directed by F.W. Murnau and starred Max Schreck in the lead role as Count Orlok, and it was based on Stoker’s Dracula…though not officially. They couldn’t secure the rights to adapt the novel, so they simply made something very similar but different. Hence Count Orlok instead of Count Dracula, and so on. The Stoker estate sued and the court ordered that all copies of Nosferatu be destroyed but, thankfully for us, a few copies made it and it eventually became a legend of the horror genre.

Now a remake of Nosferatu is in the works at Jeff Robinov‘s Studio 8, with Robert Eggers set to write and direct the remake.

Justice League Image

Just like that, the ultimate geek year starts to fall apart. At first, 2015 was looking like it was going to be a big year for geeks because Star Wars Episode VII, Justice League, and The Avengers 2 were all going to be released the same year. However, it was reported yesterday that J.J. Abrams might be unable to commit to the 2015 release for Star Wars, which would be fine actually; getting the story right should be Abrams’ highest priority.

But it’s a much different story for Justice League‘s future. We may know who the heroes are, but the film only has Will Beal (Gangster Squad) on the creative team. There is no cast or director on board this film of ensemble superheroes. And now we may know why Beale is the only person working on Justice League.

The LA Times’ Hero Complex was able to chat with Warner Brothers president Jeff Robinov recently, and he was able to share the future of their collaboration with DC Comics and what adaptations of their comic book properties are currently on the way.

The most exciting thing for fans, perhaps, is the reaffirmation of a Justice League movie being in the works. The project, which would see DC’s top heroes joining forces on the big screen (to compete with Marvel’s Avengers, which is set to arrive in 2012) has been talked about for a while, but Robinov says they want it to be ready to go for 2013. If all goes well, we would see Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and others fighting side-by-side.

Mel Gibson’s Cameo In ‘The Hangover 2’ Killed Off After Cast & Crew Objection

Recently it was reported that Mel Gibson would have a cameo in The Hangover 2 that compare to Tom Cruise’s Les Grossman character in Tropic Thunder. Cruise’s role, as well as boxer Mike Tyson’s in The Hangover, helped to rejuvenate their careers after some troubles with the public eye, and it was expected that this might do the very same for Gibson.

Instead, we’re now hearing that complications have arisen, and Gibson’s cameo in The Hangover 2 has been scrapped. Director Todd Phillips wanted Mel for the small role, but it sounds like some of his cast and crew (unidentified) were against it, and the plan required halting.

Godzilla

We all know the story: Godzilla is one of the icons of monster movie history, and his many Japanese films are still popular to this very day. Our own silly Hollywood attempted to make a new re-imagined version of the giant lizard-beast back in 1998, and as you might be aware, it is still to this day the victim of many, many jokes.

To wash the slate clean and try and prove it can be done, Legendary Pictures has announced that they have partnered up with Japan’s Toho Company to produce another American Godzilla film. This comes as no major shock; back in August, Bloody-Disgusting had heard whispers of this very news being in the beginning stages of becoming a reality. Now we have confirmation, and Legendary hopes to find a director and get moving on the project relatively soon with plans for a release in 2012 currently set.

Rampage your way on over to the other side to read the press release from Legendary Pictures.
