The sequel to Walt Disney’s hit revival of Jim Henson’s creations, The Muppets, is set to begin production come this January. With that fast approaching, the human cast is starting to take shape. First came the announcement that Ty Burrell (Modern Family, Dawn of the Dead) would be starring as one of the live-action leads. Now comes word that comedian Ricky Gervais has entered into negotiations for another human lead in The Muppets 2.

| Jim Henson Company Teams With BBC For New Puppet TV Series ‘No Strings Attached’
There’s been a severe lack of puppetry in our lives lately, something that was finally and mercifully sated by the recent hit, The Muppets, which delivered most 20 and 30-somethings right back to their childhoods. Now, thanks to the success of that movie, The Jim Henson Company can branch out to some other projects. BBC One has announced that they’ve entered into a partnership with the late, great puppeteer’s company for a new series titled No Strings Attached.

When Jim Henson passed away over 20 years ago, the creator left a legacy like no other. His hit show Sesame Street continues to educate kids all over the world. The Muppets, another one of his creations, has endured and just recently made it back into the spotlight, thanks to their recent hit movie. Even the Dark Crystal, though a dud when it came out, is now a cult classic. Henson fever remains alive and well, which is probably why Archaia has decided to published Tale of Sand, a lost screenplay from Henson himself.

| Watch Now: ‘The Muppets’ Channels ‘The Hunger Games’ In This DVD Trailer
For the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray launch of The Muppets Disney has released a new promotional trailer that channels in more than a few ways another much-anticipated release, The Hunger Games. You can check out the video here below. I missed The Muppets in theaters last year so I’m anxious to catch the movie in the comfort of my own home. It’s good to hear that the big-screen comeback of Jim Henson‘s cherished creations did well enough at the box office for Disney to green-light a sequel, even though star/co-writer Jason Segel won’t be back next time due to a full dance card.
