Lip Sync Battle

Woohoo! That’s how you do a lip sync show! Thursday night’s Lip Sync Battle pitted Malin Akerman Vs. Stephen Merchant, and the competition was fierce. Akerman brought the severely sexy, and Merchant brought the “I wish I was sexy.” But you know what? He is so funny that it is kinda sexy.

Touted as the veteran of the show, he definitely has the advantage. Executive producer Merchant invented the game along with executive producer John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, first appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where it took off.

Lip Sync Battle Malin Akerman

Lip Sync Battle preview videos are here! This week, Malin Akerman (forever Silk Spectre II) silently mouths words against Stephen Merchant, executive producer of the show, and all around hilarious writer of such shows as The Office and Extras. The clips show Malin Akerman performing “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard in a catsuit (Meow!), and Stephen Merchant showcasing his derriere to Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty” (NOT Meow!). Now don’t let the fact that you may not know who Stephen Merchant is deter you from watching. I too, had no idea, until one fine day on YouTube, looking up lip sync battle clips from Jimmy Fallon shows, and came across a gem of a three-way: Joseph Gordon-Levitt vs. Stephen Merchant vs. Jimmy Fallon. I was hooked immediately.

Watch the two preview clips plus the aforementioned gem below.

SXSW Movie Review The Final Girls

The Final Girls
Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson
Screenwriters: M. A. Fortin, Joshua John Miller
Cast: Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, Alexander Ludwig, Nina Dobrev
Release Date: March 13, 2014

Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson (A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas) The Final Girls is the latest in a growing cannon of meta-horror films. Part horror, part comedy, and all meta, The Final Girls satirizes 70’s and 80’s summer camp slasher films. The story follows Max (Taissa Farmiga, American Horror Story), a young virgin who (through mysterious circumstances which shall not be spoiled here) lands inside the very film that defined her mother’s scream queen career. Once inside, Max and her reluctant friends must survive horny camp counselors, trippy flashbacks, sing-alongs, and the deranged psycho-killer Billy (a stoic, slow-walking homage to Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th).

Romantic comedies: love them or hate them, they are usually quite predictable. Just for fun, I thought I would add a little bit of action into the mix and make these films a lot better. Enjoy this list (in no particular order) of rom-coms-turned-thrillers!

CBGB's

The trailer for the upcoming biopic CBGB, based on the legendary NYC venue which became a musical landmark and showcased many first wave punk bands like The Ramones, Blondie, The Dead Boys, Television, and The Talking Heads, has been released online.

The movie stars Alan Rickman almost unrecognizable as the late bushy haired, paunchy club owner Hilly Kristal. Kristal, who started the club in the early 1970s first a Country, Bluegrass, and Blues establishment (hence the abbreviated of sorts moniker CBGB) and wound up taking on some of the disenfranchised bands and alienated youth of NYC and burgeoning states, showcasing them, in some cases even managing them, and unexpectedly created a revolution in noise that at peak level, became one of the most notorious, liberating, and stark white honest musical genres ever to rear its head in music history. The name affixed to this somewhat new genre of sound was punk.

Check out the trailer below.
