Ron Perlman

In January we found out that Jason Momoa would become the next Conan the Barbarian in the Marcus Nispel remake, Conan. We also found out that Mickey Rourke might play his father, which after some rocky roads, was confirmed a month later. (Read: Mickey Rourke To Play Barbaric Father In Marcus Nispel’s “˜Conan’ Reboot).

Apparently things hit another wall after this announcement and Rourke was once again out, but Lionsgate didn’t waste any time in finding someone to replace the actor. Vulture has reported that Ron Perlman will now step into the shoes of Conan’s father, Corin.

Conan

About a month ago, we were informed that Stargate: Atlantis star Jason Momoa would be taking on the title role in Marcus Nispel‘s new reboot, Conan. That same day, Latino Review also had a little inside scoop that none other than Mickey Rourke was offered the role of Conan’s father, Corin (Read: Jason Momoa Is Marcus Nispel’s New Conan The Barbarian; Mickey Rourke To Play His Father?).

This scoop has proven to be very much legit, and it has now been confirmed that Rourke is currently in negotiations to take on the role. When the movie comes together, it will follow the barbarian Conan as he sets off on a quest to find those responsible for the slaughtering of his people. The role was first made famous in 1982 by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Conan the Barbarian, and then once again in 1984’s Conan the Destroyer.

Jason Momoa

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that a decision has finally been made on who will star as Conan the Barbarian and fill the shoes once occupied by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new Marcus Nispel remake, Conan.

Initial word indicates that Jason Momoa will be the man wielding the massive sword, after he beat out other candidates Kellan Lutz of Twilight fame, and Jared Padalecki, who starred in Nispel’s Friday the 13th reboot. Apparently the selection of an actor was close, but Nispel filmed some test footage recently with Momoa swinging a giant sword around and this was enough to wow the executives at Lionsgate, winning him the prize.

Predator

In the not so distant past, Latino Review caught word that Nimród Antal was the top choice to direct the Rober Rodriguez-produced reboot Predators for Fox and Troublemaker Studios. Now, this news has been confirmed directly from Rodriguez himself to Ain’t It Cool News.

Antal is still fairly new to the game, but he has directed movies like Kontroll and Vacancy, with another on the way called Armored. The director was among a handful of talents being considered for the job, including Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th) and Neil Marshall (The Descent). Rodriguez ultimately chose Antal after noticing many impressive skills and virtues that reminded him of a young Quentin Tarantino — most of which was his ability to work with various well-known actors without issue. This trait stood out due to the fact that Rodriguez wants Predators to have strong story as well as a great cast fueling the action flick. He also is putting the work into creating awesome creatures and avoiding CGI as much as humanly possible, which is worthy of celebration.

What’s even better than knowing who the director will be is: finally having a little inside information on this project from Rodriguez himself. He answered some questions for AICN (click the link above to check out all of the questions and answers) which offered some interesting information — including some small hints at how this movie will look.

Marcus Nispel To Replace Brett Ratner As Director Of ‘Conan’

Conan

Yesterday, CHUD received word from an inside source that Marcus Nispel has been officially signed as the director of the new Conan reboot. This report has now been officially confirmed by the trades, and Nispel will indeed be the man that replaces Brett Ratner, who stepped away from the project recently, as director. Marcus Nispel is best known as the man behind some of the big horror movie reboots of late, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday the 13th.

After Ratner’s departure, the aforementioned CHUD was told of four possible directors that were up for the job: James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), Christopher Gans (Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf), Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday), and Nispel (Read: Three More Directors Thrown Into The ‘Conan” Mix).

At first, it seemed like McTeigue or Marshall were the best choices, though Nispel works here, too. While you may or may not be a big fan of his horror efforts, you can’t deny that they’re incredibly well-done visually. With this, you have to imagine that a solid, violent (assuming), stylized Conan adventure could be a real success. Much more so than it would have been in Ratner’s hands, this is for sure.
