Even though the chances are rare, we still get excited about the prospect of our favorite titles being made into games and movie — the thought of playing in a world we love or watching a world we’ve played in be brought to life is just too irresistible — and so we will always hope for those few and far between times that the adaptation will work beautifully. One fantastic sign for a fan is when the makers of their favorite game or movie are open to the possibilities, but also very adamant about the effort being put in to make something great. This is the way things are when it comes to BioWare’s brilliant Mass Effect franchise.

| Holiday Geek Gift Guide ’09: Video Game Edition |
 |
One of the most exciting things to receive as a gift on Christmas is video games. For me personally, nothing beats the morning I was given the Sega Genesis system I never thought I would possibly get, and playing Sonic’s elusive blue hide right into the ground. And even though that childlike joy will never be experienced again for me, and video game systems are a whole lot different and more expensive these days, it’s still exciting to open up a new video game you haven’t played yet.
To try and help some of you create this joy for your video game playing loved ones, we wanted to create a list of 2009’s best and most-desired game titles. These are the games that most people are going to want if they don’t have them yet, and these are the games that have made the most impact. Obviously you’ll want to make sure they don’t have specific titles in mind, but for the most part, this is where to start reading up on and shopping for video game gift ideas. Click on over to the other side to check out our very own Holiday Gift Guide: Video Game Edition ’09 for selections to play on Nintendo Wii , PlayStation 3 , and Xbox 360 game consoles, as well as on your PC. And don’t procrastinate! No one enjoys last second shopping or the hell that is your local mall a few days before Christmas!

| BioWare’s Prelude To E3 ‘Mass Effect 2’ Video; New Footage & Concept Art Included |
 |

The team behind Mass Effect 2 sat down for a cool new video preview of what to expect out of the mecca for all of the biggest video game reveals of the year: E3. In the video, the team discusses the improvements you will see: the immediate notice of a better playing game; the demo some will be able to play at the convention; new weapons we’ll be able to use; the A.I. enhancements and how enemies will react; how much darker the game is visually, in tone, and musically; new species of aliens that will be featured; and the much-talked about feature that allows your stats from the first game to set the foundation of your sequel adventure — most notably, the absence of any of the characters who perished in Mass Effect. Keep in mind, this is just a preview video and no real details are given, they’re just telling you what’s coming and what will probably be unveiled at E3. For a prelude video, I assure you, it’s exciting to watch. I can only imagine what will come out of E3! Plus, there’s some new footage and concept art to peek at. Click over to watch the video.
