Could David Tennant Be Playing Rocket Raccoon In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’?

David Tennant

Marvel Studios’ 2014 release Guardians of the Galaxy has amassed quite the geek-friendly talent pool behind the scenes and before the camera. In addition to Slither/Super director James Gunn sitting at the helm of the feature, we have Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), and Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) headlining the cast.

You know what this cast needs, and could even get if all goes according to plan? A Time Lord, naturally.

There is a rumor floating around the interwebs that former Doctor Who star David Tennant – my favorite Doctor to be honest – is currently in the running to provide the voice for the last crucial role yet to be cast: Rocket Raccoon, a character who would be brought to life through the mega-expensive magic of CGI. Earlier reports had Marvel pursuing either Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler for voicing duties, but if this latest news is true and Tennant has moved to the head of the pack, then the idea of casting one of those popular comic actors must have crumbled to proverbial dust.

Michael Rooker

In the greatest, and somehow most obvious, comic movie casting news since Arnold Schwarzenegger was announced as Mr. Freeze (Sarcasm folks), Michael Rooker has signed on to co-star in James Gunn‘s star-spanning Marvel superhero epic Guardians of the Galaxy. Before you say, “Oh he has to be playing a villain” stop right there and read on! The mighty Rook will be playing the role of Yondu Udonta. Those of you familiar with the character will know that Yondu is a member of the team. He is a Guardian.

So there you go. Michael Rooker, who has played both heroes and villains in his colorful acting career, has joined the Marvel Movie Universe, and best of all he’s playing one of the good guys. The character of Yondu is described as “a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system” who bands together with other intergalactic fugitives to form the titular team.

The Walking Dead Video Game

Activision has announced a brand new video game based on AMC’s hit TV series, The Walking Dead, which is being developed by Terminal Reality.

The project isn’t related to the episodic point and click Walking Dead title by Telltale Games, who just released its second episode with the third looking at a mid-August arrival.

This new adaptation of the popular TV series (which is of course based on the Robert Kirkman comic of the same name) will be a first-person adventure game that will rely heavily on survival–not so dissimilar from the recent Dead Island [Our Review Here], sans the tropical locale–requiring you to ration your food, water, ammunition, and general supplies in order to survive.

Continue reading for more on the game, including which popular character you’ll be playing as, and to see a short teaser trailer.
