From the Mind of M. Night Shyamalan: DevilTeen comedy, crime drama, intense horror, romance, and an animated kid’s film. I think I just heard Keanu say “Whoa!” The Studios are offering up a veritable potpourri of cinema this weekend. It feels like an oddity to me to see such degree of diversity at the box office, but I know it’s probably not. It’s just been a while and we’re not used to it.

This has been M. Night Shyamalan week at Doom HQ as we prepare for our Flix of Doom review of Devil, along with a discussion of Shyamalan’s body of work. So that’s where my geeky ass is going to be planted at the theater this weekend.

I wanna know what movie YOU are planning to see this weekend?

Check out your choices here below.

Machete movie posterI can think of no better way to commemorate Labor Day weekend then by seeing a movie about an American on vacation in Italy being contracted to do someone’s dirty work; a Mexican on a mission in Arizona being contracted to do someone’s dirty work; or a long distance romantic comedy… about a couple being contracted to do someone’s dirty work (please let it be about that).

Well, I have no doubt what I’m going to be seeing this weekend. Here’s a hint: Tom Savini is in it. What about you?

The three big movies of the week are: The American, Going the Distance, and Machete.

Which movie will you go see this weekend?

You know how you can tell that summer is winding down, my lovely geeks and geekettes? By looking at the movie section in the newspaper (I can hear some “What’s that?” from the peanut gallery). All the summer movies have come, most have gone, and some have even made their way back into the theater.

And with Summer’s end comes the movie studio’s last ditch effort to grab at your few remaining dollars before we all wise up and decide we need the cash for our Na’vi Halloween costumes or the sure-to-be-made-available-for-Christmas Tron-themed X-Box 360.

So, have a look at what’s in theaters this weekend and let’s discuss, shall we?

Piranha 3DSince it’s going to be the movie subject of this week’s Flix of Doom podcast, the majority of the Doom crew will be heading out in full force to see Piranha 3D tonight.

Which movie will you go see this weekend?

The Switch, a rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, and a turkey baster filled with… something.

Piranha 3D, a campy reimagining of the Roger Corman b-horror classic, containing a plethora of 3D blood and boobs.

Vampires Suck, a facetious Twilight-esque farce that’s sure to live up to its own name?

Nanny McPhee Return, Emma Thompson is back in the ugly mask and bent on doing some Victorian-style good.

Lottery Ticket, where not-so-little Bow Wow strikes it rich and has to dodge the entire cast of Next Friday to claim his winnings?
