Oldboy Poster Header Image

The long-awaited reinterpretation of Oldboy by Spike Lee, if only to find out just how faithful he’s going to be to the source material, comes out next week and in anticipation the film is getting one more new poster to help drum up interest. The poster revels in an explosion of violence that we should expect from the Oldboy via the protagonist’s weapon of choice, along with the tagline “Find the Truth and Make It Hurt” which overtly suggests we’re in for some brutal carnage.

Along with this poster, Spike Lee revealed a minor non-plot spoiler for his film during an interview with the New York Times revolving around the original film’s signature hallway fight sequence.

Check out the full poster here below and what Lee has to say about his film.

NYCC 2013: Oldboy (2013) panel

In Spike Lee’s upcoming Old Boy remake, Josh Brolin plays Joe Doucett, a man who’s inexplicably abducted and held captive in a hotel – one that’s actually a prison – for nearly 20 years before he’s equally inexplicably set free one day. Once he’s let out, Joe goes on a vengeful quest to uncover the identify of the man who imprisoned him and learn exactly why he lost all those years of his life.

Brolin wasn’t able to make an appearance in person on Friday at Film District’s Oldboy panel at New York Comic-Con 2013, but he did send along a video message – with tiny cardboard hammer in hand – to introduce some new exclusive footage from the film, which won’t be released online for some time, we were told.

Footage description is here below, along with photos and news from the panel.

'Oldboy' Celebrates National Fortune Cookie Day banner

Today is National Fortune Cookie Day and the Oldboy remake is celebrating.

Check out the poster here below, which shows just how Oldboy celebrating, along with the special fortune that’s inside the cookie.

The marketing has been quite interesting so far for this American remake, directed by Spike Lee and starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley. During San Diego Comic-Con back in July, FilmDistrict had Oldboy hotel escorts carrying yellow umbrellas outside the convention center “waiting to serve you” at the Oldboy Hotel.

Oldboy Header

Spike Lee‘s adaptation of Park Chan-wook‘s Oldboy has had some bumps during the pre-production process, which almost led to the film’s demise. But like the character itself, Lee refused to give up, and now we have our first look at the film starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, and Rooney Mara.

Brolin plays a man who is kidnapped for no apparent reason and held captive in a hotel room. Released 20 years later without any explanation, the former captive has a thirst for vengeance on those who forced him to live locked away from society and charged with a vicious crime he did not commit.

Hit the jump to see the first trailer for Oldboy.

Oldboy Remake Header Image

We’ve already seen one very simple poster for Oldboy, the American remake of South Korean director Chan-wook Park’s 2003 movie of the same name that’s being made by Spike Lee.

Now comes a more official poster for the movie featuring the film’s star, Josh Brolin, getting out of a case. The movie tells the story of a man who is inexplicably kidnapped and held prisoner for 20 years before finally being released…still with no explanation. After his release, which is what’s happening in the image above and on the poster below (the image on the poster is said to be an actual shot from the movie, not a shot specifically created for the poster), he sets off on a mission to find those responsible for his captivity, and why they did it.

Skull-Face Island Movie Podcast presented by Geeks Of Doom
Episode 06: Premium Rush/JAWS

Greetings! It’s Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and it’s time for another transmission from Skull-Face Island. As always I’m joined by The Last Starfighter champion David Allen — and a man of many talents, not least of which is knitting, producer Tim Grant.

If you missed our previous transmissions, let me explain how this works. In the year 1991, US Flight 1313 experienced a mysterious, magnetic anomaly somewhere over the South Pacific. Engines failed, pilots cursed and prayed to their Gods, and three boys (that’s us!) washed ashore on Skull-Face Island, which of course is an ISLAND in the SHAPE of a SKULL! How cool is that!?

After exploring the dark interior of the island with machetes and bullwhips, we found an old communications array. Here’s the weird thing, it still works. Not only does it work, this thing is like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Video on Demand, and Apple TV combined – it’s got all the latest movies and television shows. We haven’t even bothered sending out a distress signal yet because we’re re-watching all 635 episodes of Gunsmoke right now…

On this week’s transmission, we’ll be covering all the latest movie news and take time out to discuss David Koepp‘s Premium Rush, as well as the recent Blu-Ray release of Steven Spielberg‘s 1975 classic, JAWS. We’ll also introduce you to MAR-10, our faithful and somewhat insecure robot butler who cleans Skull-Face Island and entertains us with movie news.
