Mark Protosevich

Mark Protosevich, the writer behind The Cell, I Am Legend and Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy, which opened last week, let it be known in a recent interview with Ain’t It Cool News that he is planning to collaborate with Edgar Wright on what is to be a straight up smart and scary horror film.

The entire interview (link found below) is well worth reading, especially for aspiring screenwriters and those that like an inside view of the movie business, but check out what Protosevich had to say about working with Wright below.

NYCC 2013: Oldboy (2013) panel

In Spike Lee’s upcoming Old Boy remake, Josh Brolin plays Joe Doucett, a man who’s inexplicably abducted and held captive in a hotel – one that’s actually a prison – for nearly 20 years before he’s equally inexplicably set free one day. Once he’s let out, Joe goes on a vengeful quest to uncover the identify of the man who imprisoned him and learn exactly why he lost all those years of his life.

Brolin wasn’t able to make an appearance in person on Friday at Film District’s Oldboy panel at New York Comic-Con 2013, but he did send along a video message – with tiny cardboard hammer in hand – to introduce some new exclusive footage from the film, which won’t be released online for some time, we were told.

Footage description is here below, along with photos and news from the panel.

Mass Effect

A movie adaptation of the mega–hit BioWare video game franchise, Mass Effect, is still in the very early stages of development, but already basic details are being shared that are pretty interesting and potentially unsettling.

Last we had heard, the project would be making an appearance at this past San Diego Comic–Con with BioWare’s Casey Hudson and screenwriter Mark Protosevich, but because it was so early, not much was shared. Not that it appeared, anyway. As it turns out, Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the planned movie, actually answered a few questions that fans were asking via the Twitter on their website. And a couple of their answers could have fans unsure of what’s to come.

Continue reading to see the Q&A and to chime in below with your thoughts on the Mass Effect movie!

We all know how bad movies based on games tend to be (and vice versa), but there are some games out there that, if done correctly, could make some pretty fantastic movies.

One of the big ones that jumps to mind is the Mass Effect trilogy. One of the biggest game series to-date, the BioWare property takes the action–RPG to incredible places, making for an intense and compelling story and a truly must–play experience for any gamer out there.

A Mass Effect movie has been whispered about for a while now, dating back to around when Mass Effect 2 was being released where Casey Hudson was quoted saying “Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect. The most important thing for us is, we don’t just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it’s going to get done at all.” That was followed by the news that Legendary Pictures had secured the rights to turn the game into a movie, but that was the last we heard about it…until now.
