Google logo - Pac-Man 30th Anniversary

If you’ve been on Google‘s home page today, you probably noticed it’s sassy Pac-Man ‘Doogle’. The search-engine giant usually creates special Doogles — a custom Google logo — for various holidays and observances.

Since tomorrow, May 22, marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the classic arcade game Pac-Man, Google converted their logo into a Pac-Man theme. What you might not realize is that it’s actually an interactive Pac-Man game!

Yes, you can imagine how the rest of my day went after I stumbled upon this discovery.

Linger too long on Google’s home page today, and you’ll see the game — which has Google logo right in the center of the board — begins automatically. You can either use the arrows on the bottom right corner of your keyboard or use your mouse to navigate through the game (although, I find the latter opinion to work much slower). To begin the game, you can also either click on the logo or click on the “Insert Coin” button below the game.

Pixels

Back at the beginning of April, an amazing short film called Pixels by Patrick Jean and Paris visual effects studio One More Productions was unleashed on the world. In the video, the classic video games of the ’80s invaded Earth in all of their pixelated glory and basically take over the world (Read: Atari Apocalypse: ‘Donkey Kong’ & Other Classic Arcade Games Invade New York In ‘Pixels’).

The short video spread like fire, making it one of the more popular videos we’ve seen in a long while. And now that popularity is glowing brightly, as it has been announced that a new feature-length movie will be made based on the concept. Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions are developing the movie with Jean, and they’re out to Columbia Pictures to set the project up with the studio, which has a first-look deal with Madison.

Be sure to click over to the other side if you haven’t seen the short film, Pixels yet.

Pixels

A super-duper-awesome new video has hit the web with a vengeance, and it’s from French director Patrick Jean and Paris visual effects studio One More Productions.

The short film is called Pixels, and it basically shows many different classic arcade games taking over New York City. You’ll see Space Invaders space crafts shooting vehicles below, Tetris blocks interlocking with buildings, Pac-Man eating his way through the subway, Donkey Kong tossing barrels from the top of the Empire State Building, and more.

Dust off your Atari and click on over to the other side to witness Pixels immediately! This is an absolutely can’t-miss video from anyone who’s danced with the godfathers of video game history.
