In Three #3, events quickly begin to take shape. Three slaves are on the run; 300 from a failing nation are on the hunt; and an outcast seeks revenge. Writer Kieron Gillen, illustrator Ryan Kelly, and colorist Jordie Bellaire return with a new installment of this action-induced, ancient political thriller.
Helot slaves Klaros, Damar, and Terpander are on the run after their fatal encounter with a Spartan Ephor and his military envoy. Wondering whom Klaros really is – considering his excellent fighting skills and tracking knowledge – Damar and Terpander see it in their best interest to continue following his lead. On their trail is Spartan King Kleomenes II who begrudgingly leads an expedition of 300 Spartan soldiers. Meanwhile, sent back to Sparta for his cowardly act of running from the slaughter, Arimnestos is furious with his new-found title of “Trembler†and acts quickly and alone to restore his good name.

Star Wars #9
Script by Brian Wood
Art by Ryan Kelly, Dan Parsons, Gabe Eltaeb
Cover by Hugh Fleming
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: September 11, 2013
Cover Price: $2.99
Brian Wood’s Star Wars comic from Dark Horse persists in delivering the punches, with a flavor that will make you hear John Williams’ soundtrack as you read. Recovering from a less-than-stellar episode a few issues ago, Wood has positioned our heroes in a variety of settings, magnifying the risks, and exploring character interrelations where possible.
The Rebel Alliance is in a dire situation as it’s believed a spy is in their midst, tipping off the Empire of their locations and operations. Princess Leia, along with Luke Skywalker, and Wedge Antilles form a new Stealth X-Wing squadron, to take on black-ops missions in an effort to root out the mole. Han Solo and Chewbacca, meanwhile, are on a separate mission for Mon Mothma in the heart of the Lion’s Den: Coruscant aka Imperial Center.
Star Wars #9 opens with Leia returning to the ruins of Alderaan to observe a private moment of remembrance. There she comes across a hijacked Star Destroyer from the Clone Wars era, with one passenger: a lone Alderaanian who is seeking to preserve elements of his planet’s culture and history. But there is more to this character than meets the eye, and Leia’s astromech droid’s concerns are not without reason.

Politics can be cutthroat — especially when you’re running for President. Imagine taking a candidate seriously when they not only believe in aliens, but are sure that they have been abducted themselves. Saucer Country: The Reticulan Candidate is the second and final volume of the Hugo Award nominated series from Vertigo. Written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Ryan Kelly, the closing chapters of Saucer Country offer an out-of-this-world dose of conspiracy and political intrigue.
New Mexico Governor Arcadia Alvarado is running for President of the United States of America. Alvarado, however, has a problem: she and her ex-husband, Michael, believe that they were recently abducted by “aliens.†Struggling to find out the truth behind her beliefs, her campaign team must do everything in their power to get her into office as well as prevent her abduction story from reaching the public. As Election Day closes in, signs begin to lead to multiple “alien†factions controlling governments all over the world and it is unclear whether or not those otherworldly beings are hurting or actually ensuring her chances at the presidency.

Star Wars #7
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Gabe Eltaeb, Ryan Kelly, Dan Parsons
Cover by Rodolfo Migliari
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: July 10, 2013
Cover Price: $2.99
To put it mildly, the previous issue of Brian Wood’s vision of Star Wars was a disappointing installment in the series. While the latest seventh issue of the new Dark Horse line doesn’t see a return to the form seen in the first five chapters, it is much better than #6, and establishes several new elements and movements that begin to move the story along again.
Within the Rebel Alliance, there is a spy of some kind, betraying information to the Empire – the sabotage is preventing the freedom fighters from finding a new base of operations, finding them limping through deep space. While returning to Tatooine to finally lay his aunt and uncle to rest, Luke proposes a covert mission to Leia, in which he and Wedge will infiltrate the Star Destroyer that keeps intercepting their efforts.

Comic Review: Saucer Country #1
Saucer Country #1
Written by Paul Cornell
Art by Ryan Kelly
Colors by Giulia Brusco
Letters by Sal Cipriano
Cover by Ryan Kelly
Created by Paul Cornell & Ryan Kelly
Vertigo Comics
Release date: March 14, 2012
Price: $2.99
Although Vertigo Comics might have hooked me with Neil Gaiman’s classic Sandman series decades ago, I’ve stuck around all these years because the DC imprint’s line of mature comics has rarely disappointed. With gems like Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man, Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles, and Bill Willingham’s Fables and its spin-offs, Vertigo has proven time and again that, plain and simple, they make awesome comics, ones that eventually become classics, embedded in our pop culture.
With Saucer Country, a new series created by writer Paul Cornell and artist Ryan Kelly, it looks like Vertigo has another winner on their hands.

The GoD List: Web Comics For February 29, 2012
|
 |

Each and every week “The Crazy 88’s†MK2Fac3 and “Fox Force Five†Henchman21 read a lot of (web) comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of (web) comics. Maybe too many (web) comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t, right? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists RSS Feeds, grab some (web) comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books web comics to look forward to are for the week of February 29, 2012. Single issues panels and trades pages, they’re all here.
We hardly ever talk about web comics here on The GoD List, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some fantastic ones out there. In fact, they are probably more great web comics available for free all across the Internet than there are comics available in stores for $2.99 and up. So, with that in mind, and considering that this week is extremely light in print comics considering the February leap day/fifth week syndrome that has infected comic book publishers, we’re turning our attention to web comics.

Each and every week “Hey, How Ya Doin’?” Henchman21 and “Mustard Head” MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? Single issues and trades, they’re all here.
This week boasts a load of titles that fit all sorts of niches for all comic book fans. There are titles hitting stores this week like the Comics of Doom-approved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Bionic Man, as well as the latest installments of Daredevil and Invincible. But as great as all of those books are bound to be, they didn’t make it to The GoD List. So then, what did? Well let me give you some hints, two are DC “New 52” titles picked by MK2FAC3, one of which is written by Jill Thompson’s husband. Another comic is a comic based on a movie that’s based on other movies that were based on a television series, while one is B.P.R.D.. And the last book is a go-to “Classic McDavid” pick. Continue on to see just why we picked these books.
