| D23 Expo: Chris Evans & Cast Share Footage Of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ |
 |

Hello, Captain America! Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan previewed the first footage of Captain America: The Winter Soldier today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA. The first scene (which premiered at Comic-Con back in July) finds Captain America in an elevator, watching the other men who enter with signs of concern. These are no fine men. They are there to eliminate everyone’s favorite superhero with a shield! They pin Captain America to the elevator’s wall, attacking him, but he fights back. Frank Grillo‘s character claims “it’s nothing personal,” but Captain America disagrees after knocking him out. Exhilarating scene! A trailer-like piece of footage showed the various characters in the film, including Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Captain America. Some of the pieces of footage shown in this “trailer” included fight scenes involving Black Widow; a massive aircraft falling into the water; and shots of Robert Redford. More new footage was shown as well (see description here below).

What better way for geeks to celebrate this national holiday than to kick back with a few cold ones and watch the personification of the USA in the Marvel Universe: Captain America: The First Avenger. And honestly, good ol’ Cap is more important in Marvel than you think. Sure, he leads The Avengers; but Marvel’s most popular heroes, such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool, and now Iron Man thanks to Robert Downey Jr., tend to eclipse the important responsibility Captain America has played to the evolution of the Marvel Universe. Captain America is the personification, not of the United States, but instead for which it stands. I’m not talking about liberty or justice or freedom or patriotism. I’m speaking about people – it’s the people that make this nation so special. And Cap personifies that element, that deep down, we all have the potential to be good people; and that it is not our abilities that make us who we are, but the choices we make.

Production for the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier should begin in a few months for an April 2014 release, but the casting process for the film isn’t quite completed yet. Last weekend, we learned that Robert Redford was in talks to play a senior agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now the film is adding one of the greatest fighters to date. Latino Review reports that George St-Pierre has been added to the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to the site, he will play a villain named Batroc the Leaper. Though Batroc has no extraordinary superhuman abilities, but he is in peak physical condition, especially in his lower extremities which gives him the ability to leap great distances.
