A new app has been released on Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play for the upcoming J.J. Abrams sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.

The app is being toted as a “first of its kind” offering. Developed by Qualcomm Incorporated, users will access to plenty of materials related to the new movie, as well as the opportunity to earn points and complete missions to unlock more content, win valuable prizes, and work their way through Star Trek Academy.

A brief new featurette has been released for the upcoming mega-sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.

In the video, new Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana talk about how much bigger everything about the new Trek is compared to the first one, accompanied by some shots of the movie.

J.J. Abrams Still On Board To Produce ‘Star Trek III’

J.J. Abrams on the set of Star Trek

Having just been signed on to direct Star Wars Episode VII yesterday, Paramount Pictures announced yesterday that J.J. Abrams will remain a part of the Star Trek universe by confirming that he will stay on as producer for Star Trek III, according to the LA Times. The report also says that he is on board as producer for Mission: Impossible V.

The announcement pretty much confirms that Abrams won’t be back to direct Star Trek III.

Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore said, “J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new “˜Mission: Impossible,’ and he is committed to produce another “˜Star Trek.'”
