If there is one thing we shouldn’t be hearing about now, it’s the casting of vital roles in The Avengers 2. For one thing, it still way too early for anything like that to happen. But the Daily Mail, a source notoriously for concocting unsubstantiated rumors, reports that Marvel is courting Emily Blunt (Looper, The Wolfman, The Adjustment Bureau) and Ruth Wilson (Alice Morgan on BBC TV’s Luther). for the coveted role of Ms. Marvel – a character that is unconfirmed for the sequel.

It wouldn’t surprise me – or anyone else for that matter – that Joss Whedon would include a strong female character like Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2, but until we get some hard evidence from let’s say, the people making The Avengers 2, we will just have to consider that this casting possibility is just a rumor.

The Avengers is behind us now, and Marvel Studios is paving the way for Phase Two by releasing Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World next year. While the events of the respective films will have an affect on what we will see in Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers 2, not much has been heard of that big purple raisin faced villain called Thanos.

Up until now, Thanos’ appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2 has been nothing but a rumor. But now that James Gunn has been named director of Guardians, we are getting a few more details about the film itself. Details that seem to confirm that Thanos will be the villain in both films.

Yesterday Joss Whedon shared some of his thoughts on the script for the upcoming James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy, just one of the many important pieces to Marvel Studios’ Phase Two. Now The Avengers director is opening up about Marvel Studios’ plans for Phase Two in general and giving us one more clue about what we could possibly see in The Avengers 2.

In addition to being the director of The Avengers 2, Whedon is also a creative contributor for any Marvel Studios-related projects until the year 2015. Basically Whedon is the captain that steers the ship in the right direction. And much like The Avengers, the events in Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and possibly Ant-Man will dictate what could possibly happen in The Avengers 2. But Whedon doesn’t want to get in the way and wants the directors of their respective films to make their work their own.

Yesterday we reported that Walt Disney Studios had hired Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers 2. But the exciting news doesn’t stop there. The new deal between Disney and Whedon also included a live-action series for television, which would be produced by The Avengers director himself.

So as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, the studio is releasing more details about the deal that was made yesterday, including the TV series made for ABC and how involved Whedon will be in the creative process for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Yesterday, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Marvel Studios is already developing The Avengers 2. Deadline was the first to break the news.

While The Avengers getting a sequel and the core cast returning to reprise their respective roles is unquestionable, we don’t know if Joss Whedon is returning to write and direct the film. Still that isn’t stopping Iger from singing praises for the film, as according to him The Avengers‘ success “is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much.”
