Sinestro

Jackie Earle Haley seems to typically gain the fantastic roles of his now-successful comeback to acting after lots and lots of rumors of his involvement. With both Watchmen and A Nightmare on Elm Street, it seemed like Haley was the fan-favorite for the roles, and all of that attention contributed to him netting him the parts. Another big role that Haley has been rumored to be up for a long while now, is the villain role of Sinestro in the Green Lantern live-action feature, but it appears that this time, the rumors will remain just that, and we won’t see Haley involved.

While speaking to MTV at the premier of his new movie Edge of Darkness, Lantern director Martin Campbell tackled the rumor with gusto, denying it in-full and even revealing that another popular actor was actually in talks for the role — an actor who may just be a better choice for the role than Haley was. You decide!

Blake Lively Grabs Female Lead In ‘Green Lantern’ With Ryan Reynolds

Lantern

Last month, Latino Review received a scoop that casting for the female lead in the Green Lantern movie had come down to five actresses, and those names were Eva Green, Kerri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner. At first glance, Miss Lively would have probably been considered the underdog of the bunch, but it is now being reported that the Gossip Girl star has in fact been cast in the role of Carol Ferris, officially landing her the biggest role of her career and her first chance to really break out as a star. Up to this point, Lively had done work in shows and movies that had young female demographics, so if she nails this, you will be seeing a whole lot more of her in the future.

Ferris becomes the love interest of Hal Jordan after hiring the pilot to work at her father’s aerospace company, which she runs. As we know, Ryan Reynolds will be playing the role of Hal Jordan, who eventually goes on to become the Green Lantern, one of an elite few who wield a special power ring that gives them unique abilities. This of course is the DC Comics adventure that Reynolds is running parallel to his Marvel adventure with Deadpool.

Dragon*Con ’09 Videos: GoD Interviews Female Green Lantern, An Inventor & Gets A Lesson In Goth

Geeks of Doom Invades Dragon Con 2009

As you may have noticed, our video team on the scene (I just made that up — gold star for me), Doug E. Karate and Rob E.Danger did a fantastic job of finding interesting things and people at Dragon*Con 2009 and showcasing them for all who didn’t attend to see.

This time around we have three pretty epic videos for you to enjoy — two interviews, and even an in-depth lesson in the Gothic culture. The first chat is with a woman talks about how she fell in love with The Green Lantern while watching the cartoons in Spanish growing up, and who even attended the convention dressed as a Lantern herself. Next up, you’ll meet a real, live inventor who brought along one of his creations. I can’t honestly tell you what it is or what it does, but it does throws a bunch of random phrases at you. The contraption is rather big and hangs around our new friend’s neck as he strolls. It actually kind of looks like an ’80s computer and a calculator had a romantic romp inside Jeff Goldblum’s The Fly machine, and then was teleported via the ship from Galaxy Quest, resulting in some form of inside-out electronic device.

After you check those out, prepare to take notes, as a couple of young kids will shatter all that you think you know about what Goth really is and what it means. If you’re like me, all you have to go on is what you’ve seen on South Park (Conformist!), and a little learnin’ will do help a lot. You’ll learn about what music they listen to, which ranges from exactly what you might expect to…bluegrass? You’ll discover that not all Gothic kids these days are total Satan groupies, and that some are actually Goth-Christian. And yes, you shall find out that there is in fact many “sub-species” to the overall Goth style, including the more bright and vivid Cyber-Goths, the Lolita Goths, and — wait for it — the confusing and highly contradictory Preppy Goth!

Click on over to see the videos. You know your curiosities have moved beyond temptation to pure necessity.

Drumroll Please…Ryan Reynolds Will Be The ‘Green Lantern’

Lantern

For a good chunk of time, the three names rumored to be up for the coveted title role in the Green Lantern movie were Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Wedding Crashers), Chris Pine (Star Trek, Smokin’ Aces), and Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson, The Notebook) (Read: ‘Green Lantern’ Gets Pushed Back Six; May Have Its Star). Just yesterday, word came around that a new list of three had been deduced, and that list still included Cooper, but added both Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog) and Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Proposal). Thankfully, instead of this turning into another The Dark Knight Joker casting rumor bonanza, the actor has been chosen, and it is indeed Ryan Reynolds.

As is common, the deal isn’t completely official yet, but Reynolds did two screen tests for the studio and they chose him, so right now they’re just trying to work on the monetary and contractual obligations. It’s safe to assume that they want this to be a massive franchise and not just one successful movie, so expect the actor to likely sing on for a few pictures.

Fan-Made Trailers: Nathan Fillion As ‘Green Lantern,’ ‘BioShock’ Movie Trailer

Lantern

It’s not an easy thing to make a good movie trailer — to find the right clips and shots; the right music; and not give anything away in a two-minute span is really an unsung art form. Every once in a great while, a regular, everyday you or I loads up their editing program and puts together and creates a great trailer for a movie that technically doesn’t exist, thus showing that they could very well be the next great trailer-cutting master.

While on Twitter today, a one Mr. Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Slither) pointed out just such a trailer that someone had made. This trailer featured Fillion in the much-rumored role of Hal Jordan for the upcoming feature film version of Green Lantern. The trailer features some obvious pieces of other TV and movie titles, but with a little addition here and there, some good music, and an all-around well-edited sequence of shots, you have yourself an impressive new Green Lantern trailer! And when the man you choose and use in your fan-made trailer notices and loves it, then you know you’ve done a mighty damn fine job.

Click over for the Lantern trailer, as well as one done for BioShock!
