If you are an avid comic book reader in 2012, you’re either one of these types of people:

1) You’ve never heard of The Sixth Gun,
2) You’ve heard it’s terrific, but you haven’t gotten around to it,

To that first group, it goes like this: In the wild west, after the Civil War, there exists six mystical guns with unique abilities. Becky Montcrief is a young woman who finds herself in possession of the sixth, most powerful of these weapons. Now she’s on the run from sinister forces trying to possess it and is aided by treasure hunter, Drake Sinclair, and few other allies.

Independent comic book publishing company Oni Press is following suit in this season’s redesigns when they unveiled a brand new logo on Thursday that will soon be on all upcoming releases.

For the first time since the company’s first appearance on the comic book scene in 1997, Oni Press has announced that it’s time for a change. The company has evolved, and they’re simply not the same company that they were when they debuted. And I have to agree.

I cannot think of a more difficult genre to write in then young adult horror. On one hand you have to maintain an element of fright and suspense to keep the genre true to its form. On the other hand as a writer you have to carefully construct frightening scenarios as to not traumatize young readers (at least not too much).

Cullen Bunn seems to have found that sweet spot with his latest young adult horror novel Crooked Hills. What Cullen Bunn has done here is create something that is often scary and nerve wracking, but at its core a testament to the spirit of childhood adventure.
