The Innkeepers

Ti West is an up-and-coming name on the horror front, and if you saw his indie hit The House of the Devil, you’d know why.

Though he did The Roost and Trigger Man beforehand and Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever after, House of the Devil is considered to be his horror coming out party, and, equally so, The Innkeepers is widely considered to be his true follow-up.

The movie is set in a New England hotel—thought to be one of the areas most haunted locations—which is getting ready to close its doors for good when two employees decide to do some paranormal investigating.

While his latest film, The Innkeepers may not have been the best horror film to follow up his masterpiece House Of The Devil with, Ti West appears to be on the hunt for some new projects.

HeyUGuys reports that not only does West have a new film, a space project The Side Effects in the works, but he’s also setting up a yet-to-be-titled werewolf picture.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever dvdCabin Fever 2: Spring Fever
DVD
Directed by Ti West
Starring Guiseppe Andrews, Noah Segan, Rider Strong, Alexi Wasser
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release Date: February 16, 2010

Last summer I saw Rob Zombie’s Halloween II and I didn’t think I would see a worse film that year and it turns out I didn’t (and mind you I saw Old Dogs). Four months into 2010 and I now believe I will not see a worse film this year than Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 horror comedy that established Eli Roth — who had nothing to do with the sequel — as one of the most promising genre filmmakers to come along in years. Halfway through its 86 excruciating minutes I couldn’t wait to get this hunk of rancid shit out of my DVD player. Whenever I see a particularly bad movie I’m left feeling depressed and old, but after watching Cabin Fever 2 nearly a week after my 31st birthday I wanted to lock myself in my bedroom, close the blinds, and lay on the floor in the fetal position. Instead I went out on my front porch, lit up a cigarette, and spent several minutes reflecting on this movie and life in general. The morning weather had been cold and overcast yet as I stood outside basking in the cool March weather the sun started to emerge from behind a thick wall of clouds. It improved my mood somewhat but my opinion for the movie hadn’t changed.

I hate Cabin Fever 2 with a fiery passion and I feel it’s my duty to warn all my fellow movie buffs and horror fans to avoid this movie no matter the cost. Because I care. People who know me also know I’m a huge horror fan. I grew up watching horror films even during my earlier years when some would advise against subjecting an impressionable young mind to the sinful pleasures contained within the faded, flaking video boxes of various sizes (remember the big box?). To me the thrill of watching a scary movie was the greatest drug. I’ve seen so many over the years that I’m practically immune to whatever jolts, shocks, and gratuitous gore the horror filmmakers of today can throw at me.

The House of the Devil DVDThe House of the Devil
Directed by Ti West
Starring Jocelin Donahue, Greta Gerwig, Tom Noonan, Mary Woronov, AJ Bowen, Dee Wallace
Dark Sky Films
Release Date: February 2, 2010

When entering into The House of the Devil, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I had heard some good things about it in passing, but it was one of those movies where I didn’t read one review. Even more rare an occurrence for me personally, I hadn’t even seen one single trailer for the film, making it an almost completely natural movie-watching experience. And when it was all said and done, I must admit: I might just start approaching all movies with this complete lack of prior knowledge, because it paid off big time.

The House of the Devil tells the story of an average young college girl named Sam (Jocelin Donahue) who’s in an average college girl section of her life. When she lands a new place to live and get her out of her terrible dorm living situation, it’s great news for her; but it also creates bills that she doesn’t exactly have the money for.

When she notices a job posted on a bulletin board looking for babysitters, it’s the perfect answer to some immediate income, and the cushion of a couple of months to get situated and find a much better income solution. Sadly, the job doesn’t appear to play out as she had hoped, and the stress begins to really set in. But like a blessing from above (or a curse from below), the family seeking a babysitter contacts her again in desperate need of her services. Something feels off, but she reluctantly accepts with simply no other options available to her, and has her best friend Megan (Greta Gerwig) give her a ride there to make sure everything is legit.

As always, click over for a lot more and to watch a trailer for the movie!

house of the devilSatan sent us candy!

Yup, you heard right. And not just any candy, 80’s candy, in our latest installment of Doom Deliveries!

One day, an ominous package was left at the doorstep of Geeks of Doom headquarters. At first, it was unclear what the contents were, but the words “Satan” and “Devil” and “Big League Chew” were all over the items. What in hell is this demonic package?

Turns out, it was DVD, Blu-ray, and VHS — yes, VHS — copies of The House Of The Devil, the new “satanic panic” retro horror film, getting its home release on February 2, 2010. Along with the multiple formats for the movie, there was a pack of buttons — one of which read “Satan Sucks” — and an 80’s grab bag of candy, including the aforementioned Big League Chew as well as Nerds, Pop Rocks, Whistle Pops, and much more.

The back of the worn-looking clamshell-housed VHS cassette was the warning: CAUTION: This film contains satanic references and graphic violence.

HA HA HA HA!

GoD staffer CrueChik was hanging out at the headquarters, going through the package, so check out the brief video here below of her opening up its contents.
