Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Title Card

A couple of weeks back, a report came out revealing the discombobulated inner workings of Warner Brothers’ DC Cinematic Universe. After having Patty Jenkins sign on to replace Michelle MacLaren as director of Wonder Woman, various outlets reported that the studio was hiring up to five writers to work on the script.

The report also mentioned execs were creating the rules and the world of the DC Cinematic Universe as they go. It was also being reported that there was clear lack of leadership. Not exactly the kind of news that inspires confidence, especially since the first Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser failed to live up to expectations.

Now in response to these rumors and reports, execs are revealing details to their plans for DC films. More on the story below.

Chris Pine

The road to a Wonder Woman movie has been a stilted one. Plagued with all sorts of behind-the-scenes productions problems ranging from having to hire Patty Jenkins to replace Michelle MacLaren to the idea that Warner Bros. and DC have no idea how to craft a cohesive shared DC universe, the studio really could use a confidence booster right now. And they may have found it.

If the reports are indeed true, then we may actually see Chris Pine star opposite Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, as Steve Trevor the love interest of the titular character. More on the story below.

Marvel and DC have always had a comic book rivalry, but when it comes to their films, the former always upstages the latter. Since 2008, Marvel has consistantly delivered one successful hit after another, and that success increased tenfold when Disney acquired Marvel, expanding the brand. They already have their plots mapped out until 2028. Warner Bros have pretty much locked themselves in with DC, and have just started to launch their DC Cinematic Universe with Man of Steel. Though the film was a mild success, we will see what the studio has in store for us with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Beyond that, the studios’ future for the DC Cinematic Universe is still very much unclear.

Between directors coming and going, and multiple writers signing on for competition scripts, WB looks like they are making things up for the DC Cinematic Universe as they go, which in the end makes them look like they are struggling to catch up to Marvel Studios. And now insiders and reps are confirming that notion.

It was only a few days ago when Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren parted ways on Wonder Woman. It was not the first time that a female director left a blockbuster superhero film citing creative differences.

The studio needed to act quickly to find a suitable replacement, and it didn’t take them that long to find one, as a new THR report says that Patty Jenkins has signed on as MacLaren’s replacement. More after the jump.

Just when it started to look like Warner Bros.’ DC Cinematic Universe was starting to come together, it loses one of its directors. Last week, we reported on rumors that The LEGO Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord may direct The Flash, while the studio was considering making an offer to James Wan (Furious 7) to direct Aquaman. Green Lantern and Shazam were some of the other films that would need to find directors as well. But one film we haven’t heard from was Wonder Woman.

Since last November, the only major development revealed was that Pan writer Jason Fuchs was writing the script. Now, it appears that the WB will have to search for a new director, as Michelle MacLaren is stepping down citing “creative difference” as her reason for leaving the high-profile project.
