The Movie God   |  @   |

Wolverine

There’s been a little panic lately after it was announced that Gavin Hood‘s X-Men Origins: Wolverine would be heading into some re-shoots. Usually, when a movie goes in for re-shoots, it’s an instant death sentence. It means that things weren’t done right and that they need to be fixed. In turn, this usually means that the film won’t run smoothly and that the tone will be completely off. For the most part, it usually comes down to where the re-shoots occur. If you’re going in to re-shoot your ending, this is the death sentence — but if you’re just cleaning up a bit, then it can go either way. The last best example that comes to mind would be I Am Legend, which if you’ll recall, went in to re-shoot its ending only a few months before the movie’s release. We all know how that turned out.

In the case of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman himself made a point of setting the record straight by contacting Aint It Cool News and re-assuring everyone that all is well and that these re-shoots do not by any means mean bad omens for the movie, currently set for a May 1, 2009 release.

Hey everyone –

It’s Hugh Jackman, sending this note from freezing Vancouver. I have read a lot of your online comments regarding the footage that we are currently shooting and I share your passion for the Wolverine character and the movie – I owe it all to you guys!

I wanted to reach out and let you know that due to scheduling conflicts with certain cast members and location/weather considerations, we had to wait until now to shoot a couple of scenes. Please rest assured that WOLVERINE will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations. I am stoked by the positive response to the teaser, which clearly reflects the tone and scope of the film. If you like that, we’ve got much more in store!

In the meantime, here’s an exclusive shot of some characters you may recognize…

Cheers,

Hugh

See? If Hugh says it, then all can rest easy. He even included an a little gift! How sweet.

The photo he’s referring to can be seen above and it’s a pretty cool little picture. Click it to see the much bigger version. It shows (from left to right) Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Jackman as Wolverine, Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth, and Lynn Collins as Silver Fox.

  1. The re-shoots are probably mainly due to the weather like Hugh says. I live in Vancouver and this has been the craziest winter in ages. We had snowstorm after snowstorm, and we’ve had super thick fog for the past week.

  2. They’re filming at UBC this Sunday night, by the Buchanan building and Brock Hall. They’ve set up an entire army base with a real tank and everything!
