Back in October we first heard about a “Mass Effect-style” Game of Thrones RPG in the works that was based on author George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Now the first two gameplay trailers for the game have been released, and it’s looking pretty promising!
The game has been made along with Martin, and will follow a storyline that weaves itself into the existing mythology. Mors Westfold, a member of the Night’s Watch on the Wall, and a Red Priest named Alester Sarwyck will act as the two original main characters of the game, but players will also encounter many of the popular (and not so popular) names and faces from the books and TV series as well.
You can check out the two trailers for the Game of Thrones RPG by continuing below.
The game’s maker, Cyanide Studios, have been developing it for a couple of years now and was only recently able to make some late adjustments using assets and actors’ voices from the hit HBO series. This could lead to some unevenness between the familiar faces, voices, and locations they were able to use from the series and those that were put together beforehand that won’t look or sound quite right to those who have seen the show.
All of that said, these trailers come as a pleasant surprise. The first shows off that sort of Mass Effect third-person style (or perhaps more along the lines of a Dragon Age), while the second gives us a taste of some decent voice work. Whether it will all come together to form a final product that both video game and Game of Thrones fans will love remains to be seen, but expectations are certainly a bit higher now.
Game of Thrones is set to arrive in early 2012 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
