In early February, a small white box with a yellow ribbon arrived at Geeks of Doom headquarters. Inside was a skeleton key necklace wrapped in yellow tissue paper tied up with a thin black ribbon. There was nothing else with it; no message inside and the sender’s address was unfamiliar with no company name mentioned. Having received mysterious objects like this in the past (see our other Doom Deliveries), I figured it must be a viral campaign for an upcoming film or TV show. We tried searching for clues, but there were none to be found.
Earlier this week, another small white box with a yellow ribbon arrived, this time with sharpened pencils in a black case. We figured it had to do with that first mysterious package, but again, we wondered what it could be related to … until we took the pencils out and noticed a photo of a woman pasted into the bottom. I recognized the woman right away – it was Alice In Wonderland actress Mia Wasikowska, but it took me a while to recall that the image was from the poster for the film Stoker, directed by Chan-wook Park.
You can check out photos here below of the two packages that arrived.
This first photo here is of the skeleton key necklace; like I mentioned, there was nothing with that package to indicate at all what project this was from. Do you think you’d have recognized this where this key necklace was from?
Just below is the second package that came. You can see that in the photo of Wasikowska, who plays India Stoker in the film, she’s wearing that same key necklace. Also, if you look closely at her dirtied hands, she’s holding a pencil.
Below you can watch the trailer and a character featurette for Stoker, which opens in select theaters today, March 1, 2013, where you can see at least one of the reasons India Stoker has that pencil. As for the key necklace, that remains to be seen, although the premise of the film is that India is searching for clues surrounding her father’s death, so I’m guessing it has something to do with that.
There’s also a viral site at letterstoindia.com that contains letters and postcards pertaining to Stoker.
Stoker also stars Nicole Kidman, David Alford, Matthew Goode, Peg Allen, and Dermot Mulroney. As previously mentioned, Stoker opens in select theaters today, so click here to see when the film will open at a theater near you.
After India’s (Mia Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Nicole Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
