Marvel Studios is rumored to be courting Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Anna Karenina) for the role of Quicksilver in Joss Whedon‘s tentatively titled The Avengers 2.
Taylor-Johnson, who reprises the title role in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall, most recently starred in Oliver Stone’s Savages as well as Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina.
There’s no confirmation that Taylor-Johnson has landed the role, but we’ll known soon enough as it’s likely the roles of Quicksilver and his sister, Scarlet Witch, will be filled out in time for a big announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
Bryan Singer is also including the Quicksilver character in his upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past film for Fox. In Singer’s next X-Men film, slated for a 2014 release, Magneto’s lightning-fast offspring will be played by Evan Peters (American Horror Story) who actually starred in Kick-Ass alongside Taylor-Johnson.
If true, it will be interesting to see how Taylor-Johnson approaches a different superhero role (like Chris Evans as the Human Torch and Captain America). Expect more news about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch – and how they fit into Whedon’s Avengers universe – next month at Comic-Con.
