The upcoming Dracula origins movie Dracula Untold has been on the way for quite a while now. Once upon a time it was called Dracula: Year Zero, with director Alex Proyas (Dark City) set behind the camera and Avatar star Sam Worthington attached to the lead role. But before the movie went into production, Universal Pictures decided the budget was too high and delayed the project.
Eventually the studio found a new director in Gary Shore, making his feature debut, and a new lead actor in Worthington’s Clash of the Titans co-star Luke Evans, putting the movie back in business.
Now the first trailer for Dracula Untold has been released, and, believe it or not, it actually looks pretty promising. Whether the final product will deliver remains to be seen, but for now you can check out the trailer and share your thoughts below.
The first thing worth note in this trailer are the Game of Thrones connections. It appears that the folks behind the movie are attempting to smartly capitalize on the mega-popularity of the hit show by casting multiple actors from the series.
In the trailer you’ll see Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister), Art Parkinson (Rickon Stark), and Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr). Another connection is composer Ramin Djawadi, who’s handled music for Thrones as well as titles such as Pacific Rim, Person of Interest, Clash of the Titans, Prison Break, and Iron Man.
Dracula Untold also stars Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, and Diarmaid Murtagh, and will be released on October 17th of this year. It is written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

This looks very promising. I truly hope that this is not a great trailer with a so so movie.
