According to the Wall Street Journal, leaked e-mails out of Sony Pictures have revealed plans for a potential crossover between two unlikely franchises of theirs, 21 Jump Street and Men in Black.
That’s right, we could just see Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum discovering the secret world of aliens living among us in 23 Jump Street (which will likely be titled something else if this actually happens). The e-mails also make it clear that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones wouldn’t be starring in the movie, though smaller cameo appearances aren’t ruled out.
WSJ also says that the e-mails indicate that this isn’t just an idea being kicked around, but one of their highest profile projects they want to get moving as soon as possible with hopes for a 2016 or 2017 release.
One of the e-mails read was from Jonah Hill to Sony’s Amy Pascal in response to the crossover idea, which read: “jump street merging with mib i think that’s clean and rad and powerful.”
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the first two Jump Street movies, are said to be producing the planned crossover with the possibility of directing it as well.
How this leaked information will affect Sony’s plans remains to be seen, but reaction could sway things. The leak also recently revealed that Sony and Marvel had spoken about bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly in Captain America: Civil War.
What do you think about a 21 Jump Street and Men in Black crossover? Personally, I think it sounds like just the right amount of crazy to work.
