Back in January the title and pilot script for AMC’s upcoming companion series to The Walking Dead were both leaked. Now, it has been made official; the title, as rumored, is Fear the Walking Dead.
Walking Dead comic book creator and TV show producer Robert Kirkman confirmed the title announcement via his Twitter account.
IT'S OFFICIAL! The walking dead companion show on AMC is called FEAR THE WALKING DEAD! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead
Fear, which had been codenamed Cobalt, will be set in Los Angeles – as opposed to Georgia where The Walking Dead has been located since its premiere – and takes place in the weeks prior to the zombie outbreak. News of the walkers is still being treated as an urban legend and the Centers for Disease Control is trying to dissuade the public from going into high panic mode. We all know how that works out.
Cliff Curtis (Trauma) stars as the male lead, a divorced teacher who tries hard to be good to everyone in his life. Sons Of Anarchy‘s Kim Dickens is the female lead, with Frank Dillane (the young Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) as her children. Kirkman and current Walking Dead showrunner Dave Erickson are writing the new series, with Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert are on board to serve as executive producers. AMC has already given Fear the Walking Dead a 2-season order.
The upcoming series, which is also rumored to have a different visual style than its predecessor, is still in the works with no premiere date set, but now that the title has been announced we can expect more promising news in the weeks to come.

Anyone else think the title is cheesy and ridiculous? How hard is it to come up with a name even slightly less lame than fear the walking dead.
Frank Darabont we miss you.
