Well we know that Star Lord won’t be visiting earth any time soon, so don’t expect him to settle Captain America: Civil War with any one of the “Awesome Mix” tapes his mom gave him. That being said, Chris Pratt does know what songs are on the “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” tape, but isn’t exactly forthcoming on what songs of the ’70s are on it.
He also has read a first draft of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 script which apparently made him cry. Sounds like your average PR spiel, but since the first Guardians of the Galaxy was such a wild success, we should probably believe him. More on these stories below.
While on the press tour for Jurassic World, Pratt talked to Digital Spy about the sequel. On whether or not he knows who Star Lord’s dad is, the actor said:
“I know everything.”
On the selection of songs on “Awesome Mix Vol. 2”:
“I know some of the songs that are going to be on ‘Awesome Mix [Vol.] 2.’ All I can tell you, because obviously I am not allowed to tell anybody anything, nor would I want to because it’d be like telling a little kid what’s under the tree before Christmas morning. I would encourage people not to poke holes in the paper and peek. Allow yourself the Christmas morning. Don’t ruin it.”
On Gunn’s pitch and idea of the sequel:
“I will say his pitch, and his idea, legitimately put tears in my eyes. It is so good. It’s so good. I cannot wait to get started on it, and I cannot wait for people to see what he will pull off in the second movie. It is so, so big, and so good.”
On Marvel’s reaction to the first draft:
“From what I understand, they heard it at Marvel, and they said… nothing. They were like, “perfect.” There was no micromanaging the idea that they didn’t have a note for it. It’s going to be remarkable.”
That is really setting the bar high in terms of expectations. Of course Pratt not revealing even the smallest detail is not surprising. The film hasn’t even begun shooting yet, and is scheduled to start in February of next year. As far as we know, the core group (Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista will return to reprise the live-action portion, while Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will reprise their voice roles). Also expected to return are Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). We also know that Hulk will not make an appearance in Guardians 2.
No word yet on who the villain will be or if any new misfits will join the Guardians.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on May 5, 2017.
