Kingsman: The Secret Service was the early and unexpected hit of 2015. Thanks to its huge success, the film grew a fanbase, and eventually those fans wanted more. Just a few months back we reported that the Kingsman 2 was in the works, but there seemed to be no confirmation from Mark Millar, whose comic book with Dave Gibbons is the basis for the first movie, or director Matthew Vaughn.

But in a new interview with Vaughn, the director says that he is currently at work writing a script for the sequel. Find out what he had to say about the upcoming film in the video below.

Vaughn spoke to Yahoo about the sequel while promoting the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film, where he confirmed the news:

“The good news is that I am writing it next door at the moment. If I think I can get the script good enough, then I’m making it. So again, stay tuned, but we are doing our damnedest to make that happen.”

Well it doesn’t get any more solid than that, Kingsman 2 is definitely coming to a theater near you in the near future. Of course for some of us, it can’t come soon enough. But at least we know one is on the way.

Now as to what the film could be about, that is still very much unknown. A few months back Vaughn did talk about how Eggsy would redefine the gentleman spy for the new generation:

“This movie really is the origin story of Eggsy. And Eggsy is really the real, true modern gentleman spy. It really isn’t Harry Hart. Harry Hart is the old cliché of what you think a gentleman spy is. Eggsy will be taking on a whole new way.”

He also how we might see the American branch of the Kingsman:

“Poor Mark Strong will be going on a journey that he never imagined. And we’ve got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman.”

In the video, Vaughn wouldn’t reveal who he has on his short list to play a spy in the Kingsman American branch:

“All I can say is you’ll find out in two years, in the sequel. So I’m not going to give it away now. So stay tuned.”

It does confirm that we will see an American branch, but it is far to early to reveal who will be a part of it, and revealing that now would just spoil all the fun. But the biggest question on everyone’s mind is: Will Colin Firth return? Minor spoiler alert, he does die in the first film, almost assuring that Harry Hart won’t be back for the sequel. But Firth has expressed an interest in returning to reprise his role. It should be interesting to see how Vaughn is able to work that in if Harry is coming back for the sequel.
