A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Wet Hot American Summer limited prequel series coming to Netflix later this summer, titled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. A teaser trailer was released back in January confirming the series’ gigantic cast.
The trailer is an advertisement for Camp Firewood, the fictional camp at which the movie and this series takes place. The movie, which is written by, directed by, and stars members of the MTV comedy group The State, takes place in 1981 and tells the story of the last day at camp, while this new series is a prequel taking place on the first day of that same summer camp season.
Because of the year the show is set in, this trailer ad for the camp is presented in the nostalgia-inducing style of an old VHS video tape. There’s something very strange about watching a VHS-style video in 1080p. You can check it out below.
SYNOPSIS:
Camp Firewood is more than just a summer camp. It’s a way of life. Join us July 31 for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, a limited 8-episode series coming to Netflix. Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter are among some of the cast joining the series, which tells the story of the first day of Camp Firewood’s famous summer season, now fourteen years after the film’s debut.
And if you’re worried about the age of these actors playing kids at a summer camp, that’s part of the joke according to director and co-writer David Wain. As he’s put it in the past, what’s funnier than actors 10 years too old to play their characters in the movie 14 years ago than actors 20 years too old to play slightly younger versions of those same characters?
