Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe that Family Guy started in 1999 and is about to start it’s 14th (!!!) season? The show about a dysfunctional Rhode Island family, including a sociopathic baby with matricide on his mind, and a borderline alcoholic talking dog, found a committed audience, and gained a huge cult following on FOX. When the show was cancelled, fan demand led to a comeback and with it’s ridiculous brand of sophomoric, immature, and sexually suggestive humor, Family Guy has found its niche in the cultural zeitgeist of Americana. Like many shows on for as long as it’s been, many of the shows quotable lines are part of the lexicon.. What Bart Simpson did in the early 90s for “Cowabunga”, Family Guy has done for “Giggidy” and “IT’S GONNA RAIN!” Show creator and star Seth MacFarlane transitioned to a successful film writer/director (Ted/Ted 2), and even hosted the Academy Awards in 2013.
Check out the panel discussion videos and trailer below.
MacFarlane led a panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the upcoming 14th season starting in September which also featured stars Alex Borstein (Lois), Seth Green (Chris) and had writer Steve Callaghan amongst others. On tap for season 14, we learn that Quagmire was a Korean soap opera star, they do an episode from inside Stewie’s sleeping mind while battling a nightmare, and Peter and Lois get… A NEW MATTRESS!!! Yeah, apparently that’s been in the works for awhile. Only Family Guy can make that into “Event Television.” One of things Family Guy has been great about is getting guest stars; I mean Adam West has a recurring role on the show. This season guests will include SNL alum and new Ghostbuster Kate McKinnon, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Modern Family star Ed O’Neill (Modern Family Guy?), and Oscar nominated actress Glenn Close.
They also treated fans to a mashup of over 4-minutes of new episode clips. The highlights include:
– Rudolph the Uncircumcised Reindeer gets too close to Mrs. Claus.
– Peter the NASCAR enthusiast “GO IN A CIRCLE! ADVERTISE STUFF!”
– Stewie, Chris and Brian getting locked in a sauna.
– Peter nitpicking a Shawshank Redemption panel at a convention (haha).
– Cleveland’s struggles to use Quagmire’s signature “Giggidy” line
In the final video, MacFarlane who handles the three main characters on the show (Peter, Stewie and Brian), does an entire Stewie/Brian dialogue from a selected script. I always got a kick out watching the human actors do their voiceovers. MacFarlane’s seamless transitions between the characters with vastly different voices is crazy.
Family Guy premieres Sunday night September 27th at 9:00 pm EST on FOX.
