Syfy has certainly broken my heart. One of my favorite shows, a little jewel I discovered just after its first season aired has been cancelled. Dominion, based on 2010s Legion, was set 25 years after angels fell to Earth and warred with mankind – the war that began on Christmas Day, 2016. The Chosen One, Alex (Christopher Egan) grew up protected by the Archangel Michael (Tom Wisdom), who believed it was God’s will. He often fought his own brother, the archangel Gabriel (the delighfully evil Carl Beukes) who wanted mankind destroyed.
More below.
Syfy said in a statement:
“Led by Vaun Wilmott, the talented cast, producers, writers and crew of Dominion have done a tremendous job bringing this ambitious, cinematic series to the screen over the past two seasons. We thank them, as well as our producing partners Universal Cable Productions, Bold Films and Film Afrika.”
The second season ended after the Amphora darkness made Vega crazy, in one of the best episodes ever, and then left us on the verge of an exciting new storyline, where another brother Lucifer, was about to be introduced.
I guess ratings are the reason. The show did not fare as well in the 2nd season then it did in the first, but I really thought Syfy favored shows that fit in with their niche. I know the ratings would have pulled up.
The creator and cast also did a really good job promoting their show, often interacting with fans on Twitter.
I am beyond disappointed that there will be no season 3.
All I can say is… #DominionMovie!
Dominion‘s synopsis:
25 years ago, the archangel Gabriel and his army of angels waged war against mankind. Soldier Alex Lannon, whose mysterious tattoos indicate he “The Chosen One,” might be humanity’s only savior. Along with the archangel Michael, Alex defends the city of Vega against Gabriel.
