Last week on Supergirl, Kara (Melissa Benoist) took on more than she could chew, babysitting for Cat’s (Calista Flockhart) son, while also saving the day as Supergirl. The boy is really shy. has a crush on Supergirl, and gets caught up in the train bomb scare. Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) asks Kara for James (Mechad Brooks) advice. The big bad of the episode were 2 bombs – one at Maxwell Lord’s (Peter Facinelli) train launch, and the other at an airport. Kara chooses the train because of Cat’s son, and sends the DEO to the airport. James also runs to the airport because that’s where Lucy went. Maxwell Lord seems to be behind some of the nefariousness.

Spoilers below.

Supergirl 1.6 “Red Faced” recap/review: Kara got scolded for losing her temper a bit, and that is the theme surrounding the entire episode.

Cat’s mom is in town and is super critical of her. We can understand why she is the way she is. She really lays into Kara, and Kara lets her have it. Cat’s response is to take her out for drinks for another lesson on being a woman in business, and figuring out her anger. I swear, Cat is like her mom.

Alex and Kara ask Winn to help find what happened to Alex’s dad, on the down low. That still bothers me that Kara doesn’t think of her foster parents as her parents.

The military asks Henshaw for Supergirl to fight their robot – the Red Tornado. The general’s daughter is Lucy Lane, who says she is unimpressed with Supergirl… to Kara, James, and Winn. Kara beats the robot so badly it goes rogue. I just don’t get that they blame her. She didn’t want to fight their stupid robot in the 1st place. And the Red Tornado makes tornadoes, which Kara has to dissipate by pulling a “Flash” or a Christopher Reeve Superman turning back time.

I am really enjoying the chemistry between Alex and Maxwell Lord. First, he refuses to help, but then gifts her with a reveal. I thought he and Cat had chemistry, but maybe he is just so good, that he can mix it up with anyone.

Kara and James have a heart to heart. While Kara doesn’t admit all her feelings to him, she does admit that she wants what he and Lucy have, as exemplified by game night.

The girls find out some more about Hank, and it is not good. I’m sure this is where the season is headed, the “dad” mystery and Hank’s red eyes.

It’s a very Frankenstein-ish episode. And quite well done – everything tied together in nice little package of an episode. Almost all gets a wrap-up.

There is a tiny little bloody surprise at the end.

I guess CBS likes what they have too. They have ordered a full season of Supergirl.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm ET on CBS.

CBS’s synopsis:

“Red Faced” — Personal and professional stress get the better of Kara when she goes too far during a training exercise against Red Tornado, a military cyborg commissioned by Lucy Lane’s father, General Sam Lane. Also, Cat’s tough exterior is shaken by a visit from her judgmental mother, Katherine, and Alex enlists Winn to look into her father’s mysterious death, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Nov. 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
