Everyone has been wondering since seeing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy who might play Star-Lord’s (played by Chris Pratt) father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Nothing is official yet, but it’s being reported that Kurt Russell, the man behind Snake Plissken (Escape from New York), R.J. MacReady (The Thing), Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China), Wyatt Earp (Tombstone), Col. Jonathan ‘Jack’ O’Neil (Stargate), Stuntman Mike (Death Proof), and many others, has entered into early talks for the role.
The story was first reported by The Wrap, who says Russell is director James Gunn‘s choice for the role according to multiple sources close to the sequel’s casting. Gunn has shot down some reports about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as rumors, but this one is also being reported by the big Hollywood trades such as Variety, who reports Russell is in early talks for the job.
It should be noted that Russell has not been officially offered the role yet and has not yet read the script, but the reports indicate that he will be meeting about the role soon.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to begin production early next year, with a release date of May 5, 2017 currently set. Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, and Vin Diesel are all expected to be back for the sequel. If all of the dirty details get worked out and agreed upon by Russell and Marvel and a deal is seal with ink and paper, Russell would join Oldboy actress Pom Klementieff, who joined the cast back in October, as a newcomer to the cast.
While we wait to hear if Kurt Russell will in fact be Star-Lord’s father, the actor can also be seen in the westerns Bone Tomahawk right now and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight very soon.
