| ‘The Simpsons’ Predicted New ‘Star Wars’ & ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks’ Back In 2009 (Image)
This past weekend saw the release of a few new movies, including new entries in the Star Wars—which you’ve no doubt been hearing about and seeing constantly for the past week or so, especially if you’re a regular Geeks of Doom visitor—and Alvin and the Chipmunks franchises. The two movies ended up finishing first and second at the domestic box office for the weekend, though it was nowhere near close with The Force Awakens taking in a massive $248 million and breaking lots of records while The Road Chip took in only $14 million. Not everyone was shocked to see these two movies arriving in theaters this past weekend, however. In a somewhat prophetic episode of The Simpsons way back in 2009 titled “Homer the Whopper,” a movie studio lot is shown with ads for, you guessed it, new Star Wars and Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. | ‘The Midnight Special’ 11-DVD Deluxe Set
The Midnight Special, the quintessential 1970s musical variety program that showcased live performances by current and classic acts each week on NBC, has been packaged by Time-Life into a deluxe 11-DVD set filled with the greatest highlights of the program and chocked with hours of bonus material. The set is now available and is a perfect item for the music lover in your family. Not even Saturday Night Live had been showcasing the kind of sonically rousing cornucopia of bands, sounds, and genres like The Midnight Special was doing. Rock, Funk, Pop, Soul, R&B, even traces of hard rock/metal were common fare on the program. The program always had the vibe (as most of the 1970s did) as one big idyllic, relaxed laid back party, replete with audience members allowed to get loose and whoop it up and stomp their feet, as the band played live their latest hit or well-known album cut.

| Universal Congratulates ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ On Breaking ‘Jurassic World’ Record (Image)
Over the weekend Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke a couple of records, and you might have already heard, including Jurassic World‘s all-time biggest domestic opening weekend record. Because Disney-owned Marvel was cool enough to congratulate Universal Pictures on breaking the record earlier this year, topping previous record-holder Marvel’s The Avengers, it seemed only fair that Universal return the favor. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. Just as Marvel tweeted out a congratulatory image of Chris Pratt riding a Tyrannosaurus rex holding Thor’s hammer Mjolnir in front of the Avengers team, Frank Marshall has tweeted out an image of the T-rex presenting droid BB-8 with a medal. You can check out the congratulations image below.
