James Gunn Director of Guardians of the Galaxy

This morning via Facebook, director/writer James Gunn shared an image of what seems to be a finished screenplay for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.

In the photo posted he also tags the cast of the movie: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, and Dave Bautista. Bradley Cooper was missed but that is most likely because he doesn’t have a social media presence on Facebook apparently. Meanwhile, Gunn says the script is on the way to the cast.

You can see the image below.

Coming to you presently, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista (Batista), Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled to begin filming at the Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia in February. It’s good to see there aren’t any apparent delays at least on the script front. Gunn has been holed up putting the finishing touches on it for the past couple of months (as you can again see on the draft dates in the photo).

Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise big hit for Marvel Studios in 2014 and the sequel (along with more details about the parentage of a certain Terran/Alien calling himself “Star-Lord”) has been something fans have been eagerly waiting for. The story is expected to dive more into the backgrounds of the misfit galactic superheroes after defeating the zealous Kree super warrior Ronan the Accuser and saving the Power Stone.

There has been a much stronger interest in Guardians in light of the success of Gunn’s first outing, with rumors of all kinds swirling around (including one where Thanos was revealed as Quill’s father???) and Gunn has had to take to the internet on a couple of occasions to assure an eager public what is and what isn’t going on with the movie.

One story a lot of people (including myself) would like to see is the report that Kurt Russell himself is in talks to play Star-Lord’s father. (Note: Insert a super excited squee from this writer in particular about that one.)

All we know for now is that the script is in “Green” status (whatever that means) and that the cast is apparently about to get a copy of it. We all get to sit here eagerly awaiting more info as Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 gets started on filming in anticipation of its scheduled May 2017 release date.

Meanwhile, Gunn also mentions on social media his progress on the equally anticipated soundtrack song list for the sequel. So far, we know that only one artist, the recently passed David Bowie, is the only artist that will be featured on both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 soundtracks as you can see from his story below. Gunn and Marvel were also discussing a cameo role for Bowie not long before his passing.
