Last week on Gotham, Selina (Camren Bicondova) was stuck inside Arkham at Bruce’s behest and Firefly’s mercy. Bruce, Lucius Fox, and a hidden Jim Gordon (David Mazouz, Chris Chalk, and Ben McKenzie), descend up the facility to rescue Selina and get answers, but they are all caught. Dr. Strange (BD Wong) is onto him, yet cares for Bruce in a way. Strange’s newest resurrection, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) discovers her powers of persuasion via touch. A new monster is created and set free – one with a plastic face made up to look like Jim. Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) helps Strange.

Warning! Spoilers for tonight’s Gotham finale!

Gotham 2.22 “Transference” review: The fake Jim tells the cops to stand down. Bullock (Donal Logue) is not going to be fooled, is he? Nygma plays a game with Bruce and Fox. Dr. Strange gives Jim a truth serum, and it ends up being more of a therapy session than an interrogation. Jim feels a lot of guilt, and he takes his guilt away. He knows nothing of a secret council. But he still has to die.

They are evacuating Indian Hill before they blow it up. Fish tries to use her power of touch to escape.

Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) now lives with Barbara (Erin Richards), Butch (Drew Powell), and the severed head of his stepmother, in the weirdest episode of Three’s Company ever.

Nygma sets poison gas. Is this the last of Bruce Wayne?

Bullock starts to be onto fake Jim, but keeps getting sidetracked.

Not the last of Bruce Wayne. They wake up where Jim is. Selina stops by and tells them of the bomb.

Fish finally gets to put her hands on Ms. Peabody, to set her free. They confront Strange, who is truly heartbroken at his creation turning on him. “No one could love you more.” He runs away from Fish and sets the bomb.

Barbara comes to the station and knows it’s not Jim almost immediately (finally… hello?). She slaps the plastic face out of place.

Mr. Freeze and Firefly fight over Selina. This scene really “warms” my heart. Even though Selina is playing Firefly to save her Bruce, it shows the monsters capable of caring, and Firefly was a true victim. Selina uses the time to save the boys, while Strange gets hit with the ice and the fire and somehow survives. Could he also be an experiment? The bomb is going to go off. Jim gets Lucius to try and stop the bomb, and Nygma to show them the way. They are frantic. Ms. Peabody croaks, “Water.” They think she means the bomb. Nope. That part was a comical moment in such a dark series.

Fish drives the bus away, with squad cars chasing it down. Butch and the gang show up and shoot it up. Penguin is shouting for Professor Strange, and comes face to face with Fish Mooney and faints. I was disappointed that Butch ran away and did not stay for a sweet reunion.

I guess the therapy worked. Jim says goodbye to go find Lee.

Bruce tells Alfred (Sean Pertwee) of the “secret council” – “Oh bloody hell!”

The monsters are out in Gotham. Someone who looks just like Bruce with long hair gets out of the bus. Nice setup for season 3.

Gotham was more of a dark comic book than ever this season, especially with Dr. Strange and his band of merry crazies. I did wish Theo Galavan continued a little further in the storyline (especially when he was really alive), as I love James Frain. He is so good, he makes me think he is evil in real life.

Fake Jim’s voice and mannerisms were quite over-the-top. The winks and leers were funny, and so outrageously not Jim, I found it hard to believe he wasn’t found out sooner, despite the likeness. This and the other dark comedic moments: Penguin with severed head, Nygma’s logical crazy, Barbara, Bullock’s snark… keep this show that is so full of evil plots and villainy, from plunging the audience into despair from the lack of true happy endings.

We know monsters and fake Bruce will be the focus of season 3, but the other wild cards like Strange, Barbara, and Nygma, are sure to continue to be entertaining.

See you for season 3!
