Things are progressing pretty nicely for Taika Waititi and Thor: Ragnarok. The film recently added Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge aka The Executioner. They’re joined on the cast by Cate Blanchett, who plays Hela the Asgardian Goddess of Death, and Tessa Thompson who will play Valkyrie and Thor’s love interest.
Now there are a couple of new rumors surrounding the film. Mark Ruffalo has already said that the film will be a buddy movie that sees the two heroes venturing out on a cosmic journey. How those two get into this precarious situation still isn’t clear. But one rumor is that Thor is searching for a yet to be identified MacGuffin only to get banished to a gladiator-like world where he meets Hulk, who is apparently the reigning champion.
Now there is a new rumor about the new characters that will appear in the final film of the Thor trilogy. More on the story below.
JoBlo says the plot of the film stays the same with Thor searching for an item to stop Ragnarok, Asgardian’s version of the Apocalypse. There’s bound to be some sort of repercussion that has an effect on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What this item remains a mystery. Some believe that it could be another Infinity Stone. There are only two left: Time and Soul, so it should be interesting to see which one it is if one will be used at all.
The site says that there will be a “Planet Hulk” element in the story, but the Gladiator games will be run by Grandmaster. We still don’t know if Hulk will be the reigning champion but apparently he will be sporting that single metal sleeve with spiked shoulders as seen in the comics.
Thor will also be getting a new look, such as a shaved head, but only for a portion of the film. As for Thompson’s Valkyrie, the film will take some creative liberties on the look of the character. Instead of the traditional blond Viking look, she’ll be wearing war paint on her face, much like a Native American warrior.
Much like Captain America: Civil War, it looks like Thor: Ragnarok will have two of the founding Avengers in a mega film that will also introduce fascinating characters that have the possibility of appearing in the final two Avengers films. We could possibly see more of these as solo films act more as an introduction for our heroes and the third being a large ensemble one.
Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
