You may know her as Daenerys Targaryen, the Master of Dragons, in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones. But pretty soon, you will also remember Emilia Clarke for her role in Star Wars. That’s because she is now joining the untitled Han Solo spinoff. More on the story below.
News broke tonight on starwars.com of the Game of Thrones actress’ joining the cast, but it’s unclear at this time what her role will be. In fact, the website doesn’t offer any details as to who she is only saying that “Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.”
It should be noted that Disney and Lucasfilm are still looking at Tessa Thompson, Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz to fill another unspecified female role. It is rumored that is Sanna Starros, but that has yet to be confirmed. But if that is indeed the cast, we will likely see her side-by-side with Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo and Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian.
So given that speculation, it should be interesting to see who Clarke will play. It’s highly unlikely that Clarke would be playing Leia Organa, since the two were formally introduced to each other in the original film, Star Wars: A New Hope. My guess is that she’s playing a villainous role, but as to who Han Solo may have crossed or if this is a female villain we have see before, that is unclear. I’ve never read any of the comics or the books, so I could be wrong.
For now, we are left to speculate. It’s still not clear what exactly this film is about other than that it will center on a young Han, Chewie, and Lando, and their smuggling adventures. We still don’t even have a n official title for this spinoff, but at least we know that the film will open in theaters on May 25th, 2018.
It is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a script written by Lawerence and Jon Kasdan. Bradford Young is the film’s cinematographer.
