As much as Star Wars: The Force Awakens could have had A-listers to lead the film, director J.J. Abrams chose a couple of unknowns. However, some of those bigger names managed to get in a few cameos (such as James Bond himself, Daniel Craig), while others never got their chance to be a part of a galaxy far far away. We recently learned that Eddie Redmayne tested for Kylo Ren, a role that eventually went to Adam Driver. However, the Oscar-winning actor wasn’t the only big name who was up for a role in the 2015 Star Wars sequel.
While helping promote his new film Assassin’s Creed, Michael Fassbender said he was considered for a role in The Force Awakens.
The X-Men actor was on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he talked about the role, but never mentioned which one he was up for.
“We talked about a role. We had a conversation. I’m pretty sure I was busy doing something else in the summer he was kickstarting that.”
We could guess until we are blue in the face, but there was word that Fassbender was being considered to play an Imperial Officer. Though it was never specified who, some believe that he was up for General Hux, which went to Harry Potter actor Domhnall Gleeson. Others speculated that he could have played Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Of course, the initial character he was up for could have been written out by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan when there were doing an overhaul on Michael Arndt’s draft.
There’s still a chance that Fassbender could appear in a Star Wars film. No one is stopping him from being in one. After all, there are many cameo opportunities for actors out there who want to be in a Star Wars movie, but maybe don’t have the time or commitment for a huge role.
Maybe we’ll get a better answer from Fassbender during the Alien: Covenant press tour.
Assassin’s Creed is out in theaters today. Alien: Covenant will open in theaters on May 19, 2017.

Dodged a bullet. TFA was mediocre and the character of General Hux was a ham-fisted whine-bot.
