Star Wars The Last Jedi image 09

So now that we’ve watched the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi a few hundred times (or more) and got a tease of the panel from Star Wars Celebration today, it’s time for some good ol’ fashioned photos.

As we all know, The Last Jedi is the second installment of a brand new trilogy, but director Rian Johnson isn’t being as secretive about the plot as his predecessor J.J. Abrams when he directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Of course, Johnson is being as vague as possible so not to spoil the entire thing, but he did reveal that The First Order will be making “Big Moves” that could strengthen their place within the Galactic Senate. Check out what he had to say below, plus a few new photos from the trailer that dropped this morning.

During The Last Jedi panel, Johnson had this to say about where the First Order stands after the events of The Force Awakens.

“Starkiller Base was a big loss. But they did manage to take out the seat out of the Republic, and that has thrown the galaxy into chaos, and The First Order is going to jump on that at the beginning of our movie, very aggressively. They’re be making big moves at the start of the film. So things are gonna get dire.”

It’s difficult to say if Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke (Mark Hamill) will ever join Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac), Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), and Leia (Carrie Fisher). So far the trailers suggest that it won’t happen. But never say never. This is a Star Wars film after all, the groups will eventually reconvene. One thing is for sure, The First Order will not make things easy for them.

There’s definitely an Empire Strikes Back vibe that coursed through the trailer and it doesn’t get any more clearer than when Luke says “I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end.” Has training Ben Solo, I mean Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), traumatized him to a point where he comes to this conclusion or does he feel the Dark Side is too powerful to overcome?

We aren’t going to get all the answers from one two-minute trailer, but we sure can have fun speculating and dissecting the trailer frame by frame. While we don’t get to see Benicio del Toro or Laura Dern’s characters, we do see a new planet in the trailer. For instance, one of the newest planets is called Crait. The white-surfaced planet makes a very short appearance in the trailer we’re seeing a formation podracing b-wing hybrid on a collision course towards AT-ATs. In an interview with EW, Johnson said, “It’s way out there. It’s uncharted… It’s a mineral planet and so there are mines on it.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

The film opens in theaters on December 15, 2017.
