While the Avengers deal with end of the world conflicts, and the Guardians of the Galaxy protect the galaxy, it’s up to the Revengers to defend the realms. You’ve never heard of the Revengers? Well, they will appear in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok and are made up of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Four unlikely banished heroes who unite to defend Asgard from Hela (Cate Blanchett) bringing the Asgardian apocalyptic event known as Ragnarok.
The highly anticipated sequel has already earned some high praise from critics (you can read our review here), and now to get people even more psyched for the film, Marvel Studios has released a new featurette about the Revengers and their quest to defeat Hela.
Check out the latest featurette for the film below.
As we have seen previous trailers and featurettes, the team name isn’t exactly inspiring or original. In the film, Valkyrie asks Thor if he has a name for the team before their escape. Of course, he struggles to find the answer, and quickly comes up with the Revengers. Something that Valkyrie literally cannot believe. But his explanation is actually quite sound. Hemsworth compares the group as “roommates who agree and disagree and have all sorts of arguments.” That seems like a reasonable comparison.
The featurette is pretty much your standard marketing campaign piece, using some of the footage and humor we have already seen to get us amped up for the film. But there is also some new footage as well as we hear Hemsworth explain the plot and what our heroes must do to overcome the new threat that Hela poses to Asgard.
There are a couple of clips of the cast talking excitedly about their respective characters. Thompson describes Valkyrie as one of many elite warriors who meets Thor and Banner, and then becomes a part of their team. Ruffalo says he is just excited to play two characters in the film. “There’s no one without the other,” Ruffalo says in the featurette.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do In Shadows, Hunt For Wilderpeople), Thor: Ragnarok also stars Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Rachel House. The film is set to open in theaters on November 3, 2017. Don’t forget to check out our latest coverage of the highly anticipated film here.
