LucasFilm has dropped the second trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film, which is the second Star Wars spinoff to be released, will center on a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) who goes on a galactic adventure and befriends Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), while also detailing how the nerf-herder came into possession of the iconic Millennium Falcon. Check out the trailer here below.
The newest trailer comes off the latest news of a troubled production. Following Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s departure, due to creative differences, the two were subsequently replaced by Ron Howard. These spinoffs were designed to “tell stories that may not involve Jedi.” With Rogue One, we saw how a band of heroes came together to steal the plans to the Death Star.
But the marketing for the new film has been rather interesting. This would be the first of the new Star Wars films to be released in the month of May, which was when the first six were released. Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi have all had December bows. However, Solo would only have a five-month gap between it and The Last Jedi. So Disney had to hold off on making too early of a push, otherwise, they would risk confusion as to which Star Wars film was already in theaters and which one would be opening.
So that’s one of the reasons why we are seeing such a huge push for Solo as we get closer to its release.
Plot details have been kept under wraps, but the basic gist of the film is that it will cover Han Solo’s exploits as a young smuggler. We’ll see some friendly faces and some new ones as well. Whether or not we can trust these characters remains to be seen.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” makes the jump to light speed in a high-octane adventure that navigates the perils of a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, forges new friendships that will last a lifetime, and reveals untold secrets from the hidden past of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes. Han Solo meets loyal co-pilot Chewbacca and notorious gambler Lando Calrissian for the first time, bound by a desperate mission against impossible odds that will help shape the irresistible scoundrel audiences have come to love.
Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Paul Bettany also star.
Written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25, 2018.
