Frozen 2 Cast Adds Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown

Disney is not letting go of the chance to capitalize on the popularity of Frozen. After numerous spinoffs and shorts, the studio is proceeding to move forward with the production of its sequel Frozen 2.

While the core cast of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad are all expected to return, the addition of new voices is inevitable. Now we are getting confirmation of some of the new voices you will hear in Frozen 2. According to new reports, Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood and This is Us star Sterling K. Brown will join the cast. More on the story below.

Variety was the first to report on the news, but they could not provide any details about the plot or who Wood and Brown will play. At this point, we should expect the sequel to have more stakes than some of their previous shorts.

In addition to the original cast’s return, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will also return. Lee has just been named CCO of Walt Disney Animation after John Lasseter’s disgraced exit. Lee will also write the script. She also wrote the script for this year’s Wrinkle In Time.

Frozen was one of the biggest hits for Walt Disney Animation. The film, which was released in 2013, went on to gross $400 million domestically and earned $1.2 billion worldwide. It was also awarded with the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song – “Let It Go.” Not only that, but its popularity also gave way for a Broadway adaptation. And there’s also the live-action show in Disney’s California Adventure. So Disney is hoping that Frozen‘s popularity continues to snowball.

But as the plot is being kept under lock and key, many are wondering what the sequel could be about. Certainly, there has to be more drama than bringing holiday cheer or creating the perfect birthday. Not that those are not stressful, it’s just that if we are going to have a sequel, there better be bigger stakes.

Wood is perhaps best known for her Emmy-nominated performance as the sentient host Dolores from Westworld. Brown, who can be seen in both Black Panther and Hotel Artemis, is best known for his performance in the NBC family drama This is Us. But before you ask if either of them can sing, well, just know that Wood had a singing role in Strange Magic. She also sang in that Westworld trolling video. Meanwhile Brown sang some Nickelback – yes, Nickelback – when he hosted Saturday Night Live, which you can watch below.

Frozen 2 opens in theaters on November 27, 2019.
