It’s starting to look like everyone wants to be a part of Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of Dune. The film, which will be based on Frank Herbert‘s novel of the same name, stars Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides. He will be joined by Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgard.
And now you can add Aquaman and Thanos into the mix. Reports confirm that Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin are both in talks to have roles in Villeneuve’s film adaptation of the sci-fi epic. More on the report below.
THR was the first to confirm that both Brolin and Momoa are in talks to join the film, which already touts a very impressive cast.
If Momoa signs on, he would play “Duncan Idaho, the fierce swordsmaster who is fiercely loyal to the Atreides family.” Richard Jordan played the same character in David Lynch’s 1984 movie.
If Brolin signs on, he would play “Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman loyal to the family who is instrumental in the wakening of Atreides’ cosmic powers, which will start a revolution.”
As previously reported the film will be set in the distant future, when Paul Atreides’ family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.
Isaac is in talks to play Duke Leto Atreides, Paul’s father; while Ferguson will play Lady Jessica, Leto’s wife and Paul’s mother. As for Skarsgard, he will play the villainous Baron Harkonnen, who will be aided by Bautista’s Beast Rabban, Baron Harkonnen’s nephew. Meanwhile, Rampling will play the Reverend Mother Mohiam, a high-powered cleric.
As for Zendaya, she will play Chani, who is described as “the girl of Paul’s dreams who takes on a leading role as his proper love interest.” While Bardem will play a leader of a Fremen tribe.
Brolin can next be seen reprising his role as Thanos, the Mad Titan, in Avengers: Endgame. Momoa can currently be seen in two films, Aquaman and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.
Written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth, and Jon Spaihts, Dune will shoot in Budapest and Jordan in the spring. No release date has been set yet.
