Walt Disney Studios may have found huge success with its live-action adaptations of their animated classics through theatrical releases, but they have reserved a few special titles for Disney+, their exclusive streaming service. One of those new titles will be a retelling of Lady and The Tramp.
We got a first-hand look at the film at the D23 Expo on Friday in the form of the first trailer, which demonstrates that the new live-action version promises to be just as adorable as it is romantic. Check out the first trailer here below, which was introduced at the convention by its canine stars Rose (“Lady”) and Monty (“Tramp”) and their human co-star Yvette Nicole Brown, who also hosted the panel.
From director Charlie Bean, the film is based on the 1955 animated film of the same name, which centers on an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady (Tessa Thompson) who meets a street smart, downtown stray mongrel called the Tramp (Justin Theroux), and the two embark on many romantic adventures, including that iconic spaghetti smooch scene.
In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless re-telling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.
Lady and The Tramp will also star Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Yvette Nicole Brown, Adrian Martinez, and Arturo Castro, and features the voices of Tessa Thompson, Justin Theroux, Sam Elliott, Ashley Jensen, Benedict Wong, and Janelle Monáe.
