Rey (Daisy Ridley) in Star Wars: Episode IX

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker marks the end of one of the greatest cinematic legacies ever. While the Skywalker saga will come to an epic conclusion later this December, attendees were treated today to a new look from the upcoming film at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

At D23, J.J. Abrams presented brand new footage, which, as of this posting, is not online, but see below for a description. A new poster was debuted as well, which you can see here below.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke about how The Rise Of Skywalker is end of the Star Warssaga and sent her praises to Abrams. She said how he makes the entire experience amazing good time, and added, “I can promise you when you see this movie, it is an incredibly good time.”

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, along with Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams joined the creative team to share their thoughts on making the film.

Russell said Zorri is a bit shady and a criminal who has a connection to Poe Dameron. Ackie is beyond happy to be a part of the family. Williams said Lando has never left him. Being there was a very special moment for him.

Daniels, who’s played the droid C-3PO throughout the entire saga, said it is hard for him to understand that the story is ending, but said that we will love it.

Abrams said working with the late Carrie Fisher, she was indescribable and witty. They needed Leia in the last film, and that they could bring her back by footage from the previous film.

They didn’t offer a new trailer, but a sizzle reel that showed off the great scenes from the original trilogy and the prequels, which led up to a mini trailer of The Rise Of Skywalker. In it, we see Poe, Finn, and Rey walking into a desert party. C-3PO being assembled, but his eyes light up red. That was followed by Poe leading a number of ships against a fleet of Star Destroyers. All of that culminated with Rey and Kylo fighting on what looks like a barge, with waves crashing against it. But the most surprising capper to it all is that we see Rey in a black cloak force-retrieving two red lightsabers that fold outward into one.

It will likely be a while before we get a full trailer, but even this little bit is enough to get excited.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, 2019.
